Technical Palio 1.9D Fuel Injector problem(Red Light)

Hello PPl,

I own a fiat Palio 1.9 D (year 2003) MUMBAI, car had done the running of apprx 29-30K up till now. Everything was perfect until last weekend.

Last weekend was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic in Mumbai, almost 3 hours & I covered only 7Km:bang:. After such a bad traffic I hit the Extern-express highway. As soon as my car touched 50-60Km/Hr speeds, suddenly the FUEL INJECTOR light (red light) came alive. The car was not behaving properly the response to Accelerator was weird. Vibrations were increased. AC stopped working, thought the vent was working the cooling effect was gone. I switched off the car & again tried switching it on, but no improvement.

I waited almost for 1 hour on highway, and then decided to call "FAST-TRAK service". After 1 hour the mechanic came with his all tools and stuff. He pulled out the tubes from where Diesel flows, it was working fine. So he changed one FUSE. (Don’t know exactly which fuse). And car started like nothing was wrong with it. I thought problem is solved.:idea:


After that I drove the car some 15-20 Km it was running very smooth. I stopped the car at one of the restaurant had my dinner, and when I started the car, the same Fuel injector light was again alive. After that I had no option other than drive the car using clutch only. I drove the car approx 20-30KM/Hr.

Next day when I called my mechanic he said something is wrong with the wiring. Hence he did some changes. Currently whenever I tried to switch on the car is first attempt red light comes alive. I have to switch it off and switch on again and give little bit accelerator and Babe starts working fine.

Please help me, I think many guys who owns FIAT 1.9D have faced this problem. Please tell me how you guys got the solution for it? I am diehard fan of FIAT. And very nervous about this problem. I have lost confidence to take my babe to long drive.

The red injection light indicates thartthe ECU has detected a fault, and stored it.
Go to a FIAT dealership, and have your ECU read, than you know what's wrong.

I am just praying that FUEL INJECTOR should not be in fault....

could be anything fuel (injection) related.....

Maybe run a some injector cleaner through the fuel system and see if the symptoms clear, might still need a dealer to remove the logged ECU error code though.

Hi guys,

Right now i am able to start it but i have to crank it minimu 2 times or some times more than 3-4 times . once started it behaves normal. Though from last 2 weeks i have not tested my babe for long Drive.

And i am using some kind(dont remember the name) Fluid which prevents Injectors from getting clogged. I make it point that i add it when ever i get tank full. Approx (10Ml of liquid for 10 Liters, as suggeste on the Liquid Bottle).

i have not yet visited the DEALER....thnx to busy work schedule....Will be taking it to PUNE which is almost 2.5-3.00 hours drive from MUMBAI....hope i will do it soon....:slayer:

No Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo or Iveco dealer any closer...???
They all should have the right equipment to read your ECU..!!

just to keep you guys updated...i took my palio to one of the FIAt dealer....i had an appointment in last week.....

Guess what.....when i booked appointment was told tht they have examiner.....when i reached there.....it was informed that...they do have examiner....but it's not working........
i am clue less why they gave me appointment....

still.....will try some other source....to get my babe checked.....

Drove down to PUNE and got my babe checked....
In 2 days I drove almost 440-460 KM....touched a max speed of 130KM/hr..No problem what so ever except ...while starting I have to crank her 2 times.....



Got her diagnosed in PUNE......

1. EXAMINER pointed out that FP has problem in one of the SENSOR.... I need to replace that sensor :yuck:... & that job will be done in Mumbai...... (Service center [B.U.BHANDARI, Wakad,Pune] was really excellent...those guys were so helpful/Hostile/knowledgeable....both CAR and it's owner are handled respectfully.)
2. Other than this not a single error/Problem in the car

Will post once the problem is fixed......

I will appreciate... If you guys can share the information about what all sensors FP has...would like to know in deep about these sensors...

in my case when fuel injector light is on ...then AC is not working and Car Looses it's power.

when it's off then she is like brand new PALIO raring to hit the road.

Hey Buddy....

I am having exactly the same problem with my 2004 Plaio 1.9 D ELX.
She has clocked 106000kms till date. I have driven it for abt 30000kms with the problem. She is perfectly all right.

When I approached the dealer in chennai, he said there is some problem with fuel pump and it needs to be calibrated. F/P has to be sent n it wud cost 25k to fix the issue. So I decided to run her with this problem.
Even he recommended the same....I have no options.

Occasionaly...once in a blue moon, she starts with single crank.

Another tip is to stop the engine and turn the ignition on immediately, to avoid dual cranking, incase of short stops at signals or parkin lot.

Do write us when u actually solve the issue. I wish I could get it fixed too...But cant shellout 30k for it....

But as per as i know it will not cost more than 17-18K.(Still it's big amount). The actual cost will depend up on what kind of sensor has failed. I learned from FIAT dealer that depending up on the sensor it will cost. [ranges from 3K-17K not a penny more]. I am hoping that i dont have to pay 17K.

Yes i was about to share this info that quick Off/On will not trouble us at traffic signals. still thank you for sharing this information. I know that we can run the car with same problem but its very tiring/frustrating :yuck: job to do. Hope you agree on this.

Will keep you updated. If possible share your cell number so that once i fix the problem i will inform you.

Thanks for d info. Yeas it highly irritating and sucks up the battery life and offcourse the starter array. Thats nice. I wonder whether these guys out here have some diagonostic facility. I will check it out.

yups tht will be better...
Just ask them if they have "EXAMINER". Its nothing but a computer for FIAT car check up.

They will just connect ECU of your car to EXAMINER; and it will show all the errors on the screen. This will give you exact knowledge of what all things are not functioning correctly in your car. Simple.

Almost ALL FIAT dealers have this Examiner with them. Also you dont need to keep your car with dealer for checking..it hadrly takes few mins.....

Firstly,

In order to get the power during accerlation i have to crank it twice.

Secondly, though there is green light on switching on the a/c but no cooling. I beleive a/c is not working. Got it checked at tata service station but they are unable to diagonse the problem.

Plz help. And YA FIP check sign i.e. red pump sign is always on

hi buddy,

Looks like...another 1.9D owner suffering from Injector light.
Take your car to a place where they have "FIAT EXAMINER" and get it check. That will tell you exact problem with your car.

From what ever you have described it looks like... FUEL PUMP or injector related problem....
AC doesn't give cooling effect when injecor light is on....so dont worry...just get your car checked properly....!!!!

Want to change palio engine

I bought an old palio 1.9 D(2003 year) and it looks that engine needs to be redone. Its gets heated up within 10 mins of driving. Any Suggestions from anyone? Should i get the engine repaired??

i also have the same problem. the injector light does'nt cut.i've been fooling the engine. i start the engine, switch off and immediately start it to reset the ECU. kindly let me know if smething is possible to get out of this problem
