Hello Forum Members,

I just signed up and want to describe an unusual problem with my 2006 Fiat Palio Adventure Weekend. It has the 1.8 liter Flex engine (runs on Alcohol or Gasoline - or a combination of both). The car is Brazilian built (I am an American on temporary assignment in Brazil) and it now has 50,000 kilometers. Since about 5,000 kilometers, it has been experiencing intermittent starting problems. It happens hot or cold, and time does not appear to be a factor. Sometimes it won't fire after a few mintues, and up to 12 or more hours.

The engine will crank over, I can hear the fuel pump running when trying to start, and I am able to push start it. I typically will continue trying to start for several minutes (on - off - pumping the accelerator - wide open throttle - rocking the car - etc.) and when the battery begins to fade, I revert to a push start. The car has no security system, and of course when I take it to the dealer (several times) it starts right up!

Just solved same maddening problem on my fiat. It was bad engine earth cable. Try connecting jumplead from battery engine to block direct. Also give the earth strap a good tug. Mine was only loosely crimped into the conector and pulled straight out.
Hope this is all it is.
