Hi, I have a 1979 1300CL pushrod with twin choke carb.
Recently, it's been struggling when I put my foot down like when pulling out of a junction. The revs are not coming up and it just won't move.
It's like the engine is hesitating when I accelerate.
Don't think it's a spark plug as it's not missfiring on one cylinder.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hi, yes starts no problem and the accelerator pump squirts fuel into the carb when I press the pedal.
What could be wrong with the carb do you think?
Thanks

Hi,

It's a standard twin choke carburetor and completely standard car from new.
It's done 28,000 miles from new. Only modification is an inline fuel fliter between the fuel pump and the carburetor but can't imagine it's dirty after such few miles....may change it and see if that makes a difference.

The car has not used much as you can tell from the mileage....

It starts perfectly fine and the automatic choke works as it should.
It's only when I try to exit a junction or pull away from the lights, it just doesn't rev up.
Pulled the air cleaner cover off and I can see that the accelerator pump works fine.
Will check the points and plugs over the holidays and see if that make a difference.
Thanks

Hi, OK so I checked the points and the gap seemed a little small so I opened them up a little. I may be imaging it, but it seems to have better acceleration now.....
so maybe that was the problem.

Hi Pierre

odd question but is your car a manual or automatic gearbox, if its auto then the accelerator cable goes to the gearbox first to create the demand and then it links back to the carb, I knew of a similar problem on a mid 80's fiat strada 1500 auto.

let us know

Tim

Hi, no, it's a manual gearbox.
But I think I've solved the problem by setting the gap in the contact breaker points.
