Hi guys
I have a 71 Fiat Sport convertible, are these also known
as 850s ?
anyway, can someone offer the info on where to find the
serial # on the block ?
thanks
Dayle

If it's rear engined, then yes it's called a Fiat 850 Sport Spider (or Convertible).

The engine capacity varied, early US versions were 817cc. There were also 843 and 903cc versions. Your's, if a '71, is probably a 903cc unit.

I'm not certain (it's been quite a while) but iirc the engine # location in on the cylinder block just above the aluminum timing chain cover, close to the generator mounting.

Hth,

AL.

thanks, would that be a head # or block # ?
Ill check it out tomorrow, thanks

It'll be an engine number. (Motor #)
This might also appear on the licence/registration document for the car, what I think you guys in the USA call a 'Title'?

The number will have FIAT in the old style script, (tall narrow letters), followed by something like 100E - ******* . It will be on a machined, flat surface. Ignore any raised numbers in the castings, these are only casting numbers.

here is a pic of the vin tag and what I found on the block so far
