Hello, new to your Forum

I've had a Fiat 1500 for a couple of years now. It is in really good shape and is nice to drive, but the gearbox is VERY noisy.

We have tried almost everything including dismantling the whole thing and changing every single bearing inside, but it is still quite annoying.

It seems that it's the gears that make the noise, maybe too old and worn.

Any ideas?

Has anyone tried to bolt on a Fiat 124 gearbox to a Fiat 1500 engine?

Thanks

You can bolt a 124 gearbox onto a 1500 bell housing. I made a big hole in my transmission tunnel and fitted the 5 speed gearbox from a 125. They also have the same gearbox to bell housing bolt pattern.

You can also swap tha yoke for the tail shaft rubber mount to keep the 1500 tail shaft standard.

This was a 1500 sedan with column shift so with your floor shift, a 124 4 speed should not be too difficult.

Another option is I have a spare 1500 gearbox under my house.
You would need to dismantle and put the parts in your casing I think.

Located in Australia
Cheers

Thanks Geoff, my car is a 67 and has a 5 speed gearbox, so a 5 speed from a 124 might fit well...what do you think?

I wouldn't mind opening up my transmission and installing your gears in it, what I would mind is shipping it from Australia to Mexico...

Thanks for the offer anyway.

I´ll start searching for more info on a Fiat 124 box

Cheers

All the best. I have found a lot of parts from the 1960s Fiats are interchangeable so hopefully you will have some luck

Midwest Bayless Fiat parts in the US sell parts for your car and 124s so maybe they can offer some advice on what options you have.
