And what are the parts, what can be exchanged with younger Fiats?
And for last, what was the original engine, do you know fuel consumption for the old and the 1.6TC?
Hi,

Being a car that is over 50 years old, various things need replacing at times. There is no particular weak point that I can think of apart from age.

For twincam and 5 speed gearbox conversion
125 cross member

Experimented with engine mount brackets to get best offset. ( there are different types)

Converted accelerator pedal to cable using shortened pedal from 124 sport - needed to weld brackets for pedal inside and cable mount in engine bay

Cable clutch conversion - used 125 clutch pedal mounted on 1500 pedal box. To get pedal box out need to remove front suspension and steering column.

Made cable mount that had strengthening on both sides of firewall Cut hole in tunnel for gearbox and made a new cover.

Replaced 124/125 donut on end of gearbox with 1500 version to match up with driveshaft There were two types of speedo drive, one went the wrong way

Used original radiator with electric fan which had just enough clearance to engine

Other mod was 125 rear disc brakes. Used 125 axles etc all bolted in to 1500 diff housing

It is so long since I had the original engine I cant remember fuel consumption, and with twin down draft webers on the 1.6, and a love of the sound when I put my foot down, it can range from 10l per 100 km on a highway to not very far at all.

Here is a pic of the car at the recent Fiat Nationals

Nice! Thank you very much!
And amazing car, looks really good!
Could you tell some about ride quality, and how does She perform with original, and with the TC engine? (Like overtaking, flexibility, highway cruise speed, city cruising, gear use)

With original engine and gearbox it was very flexible and would cruise at 100km/h at about 4000 rpm, happily overtake other cars and no need to change down to 3rd unless on a winding steep hill.

The twin cam is still very flexible, but you notice the cams making a difference over 3500 rpm when it starts pulling harder and happily goes up to 6500 RPM

For criusing around the city or the highway 5th gear is fine and at 100km/h it revs at about 3600 RPM (There are different 5 speed gearboxes and some do not drop the revs that much from 4th to 5th. - maybe 3800 RPM at 100km/h)

Re: Fiat 1500 out and about

Loved that video. Echoes of me being driven by my Dad in our sand coloured Fiat 1500 AAA 875C in about 1965. The view of the inside (lovely millecinquecento badge and horn ring etc) and the sound was great. Thanks a lot and many happy days ahead of you. Regards Russ

Just revisited this today. Thank you.

I am lucky that my kids appreciate the old cars.

Cheers
