I know this might be sacrelig to some here, but I was curious if there are any other engines that fit readily into a 128 sport coupe.. The car I'm looking at is an old race car, but it's a roller, as in it doesn't have a motor. What I was thinking about is a SOHC civic motor or even as scary as a 4g63 from a galant VR4 that I have access to. has anyone ever done a swap like this?

I figure it'd be a nice addition to the collection of bastardized vehicles in my garage which include a Cadillac powered chev pickup and a chev powered datsun 240z.

Thanks in advance..

Barrett

BTW: I like the board.

if its a 128 coupe then its really rare in UK.ive seen a V8 in a strada/ritmo soft top,so all depends on the engine bay.fiat/lancia twin-cam would fit nice,small block V8 possible i think.i would have personally a sohc fiat 1500 engine.but to make it fast,a tuned 2.0 twin-cam.how about a rover V8?

Sorry, I should have mentioned it's a '73 and a FWD layout. I'm located in the US.

A 4g63 would be amazing in a 128 but you would need to go 4wd to use the power. I'm guessing getting it to fit would be a bit of a chore too. I had the same engine in an early Evo and that was the fastest road car I have ever driven - simply awesome. We have a 911 now but that is tame compared to the Evo but a much nicer car all the same.

For a classic Fiat I would go along with sumplug's personal recommendation with the 1500. Failing that, the Fiat twincam - but it's got to be a proper Fiat lump. I run an X1/9 with a tuned 1500 - fast road cam, skimmed and ported head, twin 40 dcnf's... The sound is just fantastic and it goes well too. Fitting an Uno turbo motor is not the right thing to do with a classic Fiat.

A 4g63 would not necessarily have to be AWD to work.. The 4g63 also came in front wheel drive eclipses and so there are cheap FWD transmissions around that will bolt right up to that motor. I think the problem is just making it fit, and then fit together. As for the 1500 or uno turbo or any fiat motor, I don't know how abundant they would be here in the US.. Any sources?

I keep thinking about the 4g63 and how amazing that would be to drive.

Some more information about the car. Full cage, gutted, custom aluminum dash panel, coilovers and slicks that could probably stand to be replaced.

yep. :)

Anyone have any experience with the stock motor from this car? Evidently it comes with it, just needs to be put together. What would that job involve, if needing to be freshed up. (seals, possibly bearings)

considering how old it is,i would go for a complete overhaul.this would make it authentic.or find a replacemrnt engine.these engines are pretty robust though. :)
