Itsa longa timea since I hada Fiat!

However I recently took a Cinquecento turbo in and its reminded me of some of the horrible (ok and not so horrible) Fiats I've owned over the years... there are some things in the Fiat heritage that seem to have made it through to the later models;

that infuriating orange fuel light that comes on in hard cornering even when you've got fuel

the odd driving postion

the funny indicator stalks!

dreadfull gear linkages

but then theres still a charm to them.

So here's some of the old Fiats I've had:

Fiat 131 supermirafiori 1600 tc in a funny green colour - (anyone remember the dashboard and funny steering wheel on them?)
131 Sport in Orange, 2 door, loved that one, remember the funny seats?
Fiat 127 1070 Gt (70 hp!!) in black; dashboard from hell - remember the rev counter!!
Fiat 127 Palio in Gold - see above except no rev counter
Fiat 132 2.0 TC in Silver (remember them?)
Fiat 500 - sold it for £100
Fiat X1/9 in silver 79-V 1500 cc - remember the choke mechanism?
Strada 105 tc - great value, dreadfull gearbox
Fiat Uno Fire x2 - quite good actually
Fiat Uno 70S - far faster than it had any right to be, riddled with rot though
Fiat PAnda Fire lhd - originaly from Roma, dents in every panel.

If I could have any of them back now I'd love to have a rust free twin cam 131 for a bit of rwd fun.
They don't make them like they used to!

We had a 131 Mirafiori back in the late 70's early 80's. Two things I remember about it:

1. It rusted well.
2. It didn't have brakes, it had anchors! All you had to was breath on the brake pedal to hit your nose on the windscreen. Awful in the wet.

It was that funny green colour too.

I have to say that it went down in family history as that "f***ing FIAT".

Put me off FIATs for years.

Hi, first post here on this great forum.

I've been messing around with FIATs for years, so a list of the ones that I've owned personally might be a good place to start... :)

131 Mirafiori 1300CL 1979 (V) in Rosso Scuro, had this for a good few years, by the latter end she had become a 1600TC Supermirafiori! :D

132 2000 Bellini/Lido special edition 1982 (X) in Black, this car was bought from a FIAT mechanic and was mechanically modified. (balanced and blueprinted engine, twin 40s, uprated brakes etc) very scary in the wet though!

127 1300GT 75HP 1983 (Y) in Rosso Corsa, I bought this to slow me down a bit after the 132.....still great fun. ;)

UNO 45 Formula 3dr 903cc 1988 (E) in Black, moving into the next era in a way, car racked up 140,000 miles. Started an upgrade project with it but ended up losing the storage space and had to scrap it. :bang:

UNO 55S 5dr 1985 (B) in Black, bought as a temporary car whilst looking for another, went very well but was rotten, used for spares eventually.

UNO 60S "Bianca" 3dr 1988 (E) in Bianco Corfu, liked this a lot, went well and looked smart. Got passed on to my mother to replace her Panda "Bianca"!

UNO Turbo ie 1986 (C) in Rosso Corsa, bought cheaply as a small project but was too far gone, stripped it down and sold off most of the parts.

FIORINO D Van 1990 (G) in Ferrari Red!!, needed this for my work at the time, things always went wrong with it though.

UNO 45S 3dr 1991 (H) in Metallic Grey, first of my MK2 UNOs, very nice to drive, looked good in the dark grey metallic. (y)

UNO 45 3dr 1992 (J) in Red, bought this because it was cheap and to keep the other one company! The other one went before this.

UNO 1.0ie "Start" 5dr 1993 in White, replaced the old 45 a few years ago, low mileage, no rot, should last a few years yet!

I've also got an ALFA 33 16V that I've had for a good few years, she is now tucked away in the garage awaiting some tidying up. :)

Over the years all these FIATs have provided reliable fun motoring, the earlier cars needed more effort keeping the rust at bay sadly. :(

I'd like to get a 131 again at some point.

Sav :)

Blue 127 (my mothers car that I killed with the help of a stone bridge)
Brown Argenta 32k miles with full history kept it for 10yrs, get this I sold it for £275 with 12month T&T four good tyres, new exhaust, converted to unleaded, new battery, brakes, full tank of petrol. :bang:
Black Strada ex mondello racing car :p
Blue Strada now a rallycross car
Would absolutely love a 131 sport in full rally arbarth bodykit, (have to make do with 1976 celica) :D BlueBrown

My parents had:
Mirafiori (I was only about 2 when they had this - I don't remember it)
Amigo
Another Amigo
Uno
Regatta
Tipo

Then, many years later, I got the Coupe.
I'd only class the Mirafiori and possibly the Amigos as old though.

I had a yugo 55, which is basically a 127 with dodgy design and even dodgier build quality. Not a spot of rust on it though, and it was 15 years old when i had it!

The first car I remember my family having was way, way back in the early 70's. It was a Fiat 850, and I don't remember much about it as I was only about 5 years old when my father killed it in 1975 (it was squashed in a rear end shunt involving a whole queue of stationary cars).

I do remember that me, my brother and sister could all lie on the back seat on long trips! We were very young at the time

It was many years before I got my own Fiat. I guess growing up in the late 70's/ early 80's was not a good time for Fiat as they became known as Italian rot boxes.

In 1998 I bought my first Fiat, a 1986 Uno 45 FIRE. It was a chance economy decision as I couldn't afford to run my 2.0 litre Cortina any more. It was the only thing I could afford to buy and run at the time. I thought I would hate it, but somehow that little blue buzzbox got under my skin.

I ended up fitting an 'S' interior, tinted glass (from an 'S' again), an SX instrument pod and electric windows from an '84 70S. It went up to 105K and was still running great, but I gave it to my sister when I got the chance to buy a cheap Citroen AX GT (big mistake!)

In the end the MOT ran out and I think my brother in law sent it to the scrapyard. It was scruffy, but had never been welded in 15 years.

I never forgot my blue Uno, and in 2003 I needed cheap wheels again. In fact, I missed my blue Fiat so much I started hunting down another mk1 Uno. I took a chance on one on Ebay, and got lucky. Another 1986 Uno, this time a red 45 S model with the extra luxury bits such as two speed wipers and 5 speed gearbox!

I've now put 20K more on the clock (just hit 83K), runs great, very little rust and I love it to bits! It's an every day car, driven in all weather and at all times of the year. Regularly thrashed down motorways at 80mph, and have even seen more than 100mph on the speedo.

I'm keeping hold of this one, and am planning on some upgrades as and when finances allow (y)

Now I'm firmly bitten by the Fiat bug :D

its a love-hate thing with italian cars.they break a lot but when they run well, everything is forgotten.sheer bliss.and the older fiats go like stink.plenty of gob smacked faces ive seen in there supposed hot hatch etc left for dust in my cheap runabout.currently have a tipo 16v with an engine awaiting to go in.a strada abarth awaiting some welding, and am picking an integrale up at the weekend.my past fiats would take an age to write here.i would just say ive had every model i think at one time or another.i must be very thick skinned or daft or both. :D (y)

My father had a Fiat 124 Special 1200 4dr, and swapped it for the Duna (which I now drive) in 1987.
I had one in Olive Green from 1978 to 1980. This was an automatic which I bought so Penny (my late wife) could start learning to drive after she lost her leg that year.

I loved it but it was one of the biggest rust buckets I've ever owned. She flatly refused to sit in it let alone drive it.

I don't suppose UVL 616M still exists, does it?

And we all know what happened to the 124s. I could never understand why Lada scrapped the rear disks and put drums in their place. Madness! Put car development back several years :(

the rear disc/caliper on any fiat back then and come to think of it still relevent, are known for there tendency to seize.they dont like cold weather.russia is VERY cold in winter.so its a maintenance thing.the axle is similar to the 131's,so it was cost effective. :)
