Bought an Idea 1.3 JTD (70hp) for missus a couple of months ago. Its very slow until the turbo kicks in, especially when cold. In fact its dangerous as she crawls uphill onto the motorway at 40mph.

My friends computer program shows that the engine is only getting between a third and half of the expected air requirement. I've tried spraying the EGR with cleaner - lots of smoke but no improvement.

Anyone else had this?

Heres an update. It appears not to have been the MAP sensor, nor the MAF. I removed the EGR solenoid and discovered that the plunger going into the EGR valve was sticking, so that was freed - but no improvement. Then EGR was treated with more cleaner and the car is running better, but still not right. Tomorrow I'm getting the EGR blanked off altogether. I'll update again after that.

Solved at last, after a nightmare. Yesterday spent 3 hours removing the EGR (what a pig of a job) and blanked it off. A slight improvement in running but the underlying problem wasnt solved. Ordered new MAF and fitted it today' big improvement but still not quite right, and engine management light still on and P0106 still there. So replaced MAF with one out of a Punto 1.9 diesel (had already tried that but it made no difference) - not quite the right one but it fitted , the engine light went out and the car's running great. So, was a combination of faulty MAF and MAP. Changing only one only caused confusion.

I'll get round to putting the right MAP in sometime soon.
