Suddenly this morning I couldn't select reverse gear. One moment I had it, the next I didn't. The stick goes in to the reverse slot, but the gate between the forward gears and reverse appears to have gone, while selecting reverse puts the car in a forward gear.

This is the first technical problem I've ever had with my '74. *Sob*

Any ideas?

Does it only happen when the car's hot? If so it might be worth checking if there's a hairline crack in a plastic bit on the selector. Had it happen on 2 different 127s in the past - works fine when the plastic is cold but the crack opens up when hot. Might be worth checking before you go into expensive territory.

Presumably the clutch adjustment has been done, as that can make it impossible to find reverse.
