Hi,
my temperature gauge is off, it stays on 1/4 and the fan cuts in below 1/2. The thermostat is new and works fine.

From what I've gathered, it's not that uncommon and people have fixed it with a new sensor. But which one is it?

Mine has two, one next to the thermostat (60809521) that looks like this:

And another one in the inlet manifold (46477022):

Without taking all the covers off to reach either one: Which one is for the gauge?

Thanks

Not sure either is the right pic!

Easy, peasy, way: ring Big Mick at eurocarcare.net, VIN to hand, tell him you want the one for the guage.

Personally I'd do it that way -- if you get the wrong value sender/sensor the reading will be wrong anyway.

Alternatively, engine running and showing some temperature, disconnect the sensor (just pull the connector off). If you disconnect the ECU one, the radiator fan will come on, if you disconnect the guage one, you'll either get no deflection or full deflection of the guage needle.

Hi mate,

Im assuming you have a mk1 punto instead of a mk2 from those pics?

If its a mk1 I belive your first pic is for the temp gauge, but its been a while since ive done one on a mk1.

Mk2's have one temp sender which is green in colour and supplies info to the ECU and temp gauge.

If you do have a Mk1 ill transfer your thread over to the Mk1 section and some of the guys on there can hopefully confirm if im correct.

Actually, it's a Lancia Y. And it has plastic covers all over the engine, so these are a bit hard to reach.

But you are right, it's a MK1 and not an MK2.

You can't really reach either one without taking the resonator or whatever off.

iirc. temp sensor is green on mine

Yep should be, see my post no 3

To the op, the two sensors and part numbers you have posted are deffinately from a mk1, so if your lancia uses the same sensors as the mk1, then the first one is for the temp gauge.

Hi,

Op says its a Mk1 - Mk1 Lancia Y 1996-2003 . . so it would fall across both the Punto Mk1 and Mk2 range.

Yeah id agree. Plus those two sensors are used on the Mk1 not mk2.

Hopefully the op has got his answer now anyway, so ill send this off to non-fiat soon.
