Right, I figure this is worth a shot!!

My Dad is currently stick at Caenby Corner Garage in is Citreon Xantia (1.8, petrol LX) and has had the STOP and ((!)) warning lights come on.

Usually, this is a simple matter of topping up the LHM fluid, but that hasn't worked this time. Just wondering if anybody has any ideas as to what this could be? Over the phone he has relayed to me the following:

Suspension raised, fluid's checked as per manual, top up as required.
Whilst idle, car is behaving (no warning lights)
Pull out from garage, lights come back on.
Look again under bonnet, finds a small pipe near reservoir - purpose unknown, although he queries breather pipe, I query something more substantial. What exactly, no idea at the moment.

He's (quite rightly) concerned that driving home (little over 30 miles) that he will ruin the car or worse. Both he and I are aware that the Xantia is considered the last "true hydraulic" Citreon, where brakes and suspension are operated from the same reservoir.

Thoughts and opinions please: Is it just a dodgy sensor somewhere? Reservoir is full (as far as I know, without any obvious leaks). Is it safe to drive home carefully? (It's fog pretty much all the way).

I have offered repeatedly to go out and pick him up and collect car tomorrow (with the aid of something a little more substantial than my Punto lol). But, being the stubborn old goat he is, "No, too foggy! And it's dark!" (He's petrified that I won't make it - gotta do it sometime haven't I?!)

(Sorry for the long winded post lol)
