Car Mechanics mag reckon that the Gti brigade are hunting these down as "Bargain of the decade" or the like.

My daughter wants one, look a bit Saxo-ish but mostly Mitsubishi engine / gearbox & running gear, plus Lotus tuned suspension. Supposed to be extremely reliable, and capable of 40Mpg. My concerns are around interior build quality and spares costs :p

Plus I've only seen silver ones advertised but some very low mileage FSH examples about.

Anyone any un-biased constructive views?

133Bhp 1.8 litre normally aspirated, not sold here anymore (UK) but still in production in Malaysia.

great car, it really is, handled very well

a shame badge snobbery was apparent or wouldve sold in better numbers

I think build quality was ok (not top class) and engines are pretty much bulletproof

I would spend time looking at various examples to try and find a good one if you are definately wanting one, plenty get abused and used as well as get tuned up to the knackers, look on the forums (sure there is a scene for these) for a good example that will have been looked after, would also read up on them regarding reliability and running costs

I've no idea what it is/ looks like let alone able to give any advice on it!

Still don't recall ever seeing one on the road

you wont they are pretty rare in original nick now, but if you didnt know what one looked like, you wouldnt recall seeing one

Forget what it looks like and what you think it is a mash of, its underneath the exterior that made this car brilliant

If its anything like the newer Satria Neo I spent a day with, which is probably the same chassis anyway, it will be great...fantastic steering, sharp handling, supple riding and perfectly damped, highly underrated cars IMO.

Thanks to everyone for the comments, nice and balanced! (y)

She's now got a job! So she will be saving some money so the Ibiza 1.4 can be moved on at some point, and now she is eyeing up Audi A3's...........

This was the daughter who was going for an interview at the Car Rental place BTW guys.... they never even got back to her.

But the dentists did.... so here is a bit of encouragement for the very young & un-employed.

She left school with jack-sh*t, didnt finish college, never even considered Uni, and has somehow now landed a job as a trainee dental technician at a local dentist for decent money and college thrown in... 24 days off a year + B/hols, 9 - 5.30 and a uniform included! How did she do that?

Oh and Thanks again Sammiboo! :D
