I got rid of my (buggered) Seicento last year, traded it in for a Daewoo Kalos Blue.

One year on, the Daewoo has failed it's MOT today. The garage I took it to and a Vauxhall garage are trying to get prices for me. I've asked on the Daewoo owner's club forum but unsuprisingly it's not as busy as this one!

So as alot of you guys are ITK with this kind of crap, I'd be grateful for any estimates or advice etc.

  • Nearside front coil spring cracked
  • Offside front coil spring cracked
  • Nearside front suspension arm has excessive play in a pin/bush
  • Offside front suspension arm has excessive play in a pin/bush

Springs are usually £60 a side, and depends on how much suspension arms/ bushes are but labour would probs be about 45 quid ? ish ?

Mate,
that is NOT a lot to fail on At all.......
You will be about £35 a side for springs,
easy to fit (for me:eek:) and as for the arms,
that term can mean a couple of things depend on
car... But prolly is about the same maybe less..
Where are you, and could you not do it
Yourself ?
If you had to pay a garage you would be looking at 140 parts and 140 labour TOPS
IMO
Paul
:)

£280 is a bit steep tho :( looking more the range of lik £150 - £180?? depends..... its probably gonna need the arms aint it ??? :)

Coil springs are becoming more common, we change one at least every week lol ..... last winter we was doing 4 a day :)

I had a coil spring go in my 406. I actually drove all the way to the garage not knowing it was broken because the car had been laid up for a while with a blown head gasket and was steaming like a train so I didn't notice the extra smoke from the wheel rubbing against the spring :p Knackered a brand new tyre :p

Sometime in early 2000 the worlds major coil spring manufacturers centralised production in Pontefract ..........and started making them from liquorice!

As to the OP's problem, I reckon the biggest cost will be labour.
Coil springs about £80 the pair, balljoints about £15 each and probably half a day's labour for the lot.
Main dealer, probably looking at £400 - £450 all in
Small concern, probably £250 - £300

(although, if they genuinely mean the bushes in the suspension arms, not sure if these are a replaceable item (if they are, they'll be around £4 each) & those arms will be around £75 each so add another £100 to the above.
