MK6 VW Golf 1.4

General build quality, and by this i mean panel gaps, finish and fit of the interior, soft touch materials etc

I'm not slating the Bravo, i think its a cracking car, but i just think we are slating a the car a bit too much just because we all own Fiats and dont want to see VAG owners get one up on us!

I'm saying all of the above are as good on the Bravo as the Golf. I personally think the interior of the Bravo is superior to the Golf, much more stylish. Lots of touchy feely materials where you want them, nice hard wearing solid materials where it's likely to have heavy wear. The interior of the Golf is, well, boring.

Im not denying that the Bravo is a lot more stylish than the Golf, but i dont personally think the fit and finish of the any of the Fiat range is as good. But yes, i agree the Golf can be considered boring.

what a hateful "car" this is, had one delivered yesterday for work, and i took it straight out on a job, and it pissed me off straight from the start...

what idiot decided that you HAVE to dip the clutch before turning the key? are you saying that because a few ****wits are too dumb to check they are in neutral, i have to faff? then, why on earth is the accelerator floor mounted? i have size 12 feet, it doesn't work comfortable for me!!

speaking of comfort, no i could not get a decent combo of seat, wheel and mirrors for my 6-3 frame, nothing gels, like there was no cohesive design process.

as a driver, the wheel is where my hands are going to be a huge amount of the time, so why make it too thin, and of some horrible scratchy, knobbly plastic that grates on your palms?

i haven't even moved off yet........:bang::bang:

the engine, drive by wire, right? gutless!! i got more go farting on a paper plane, and even when you put your foot down, unless herr VW deems it appropriate, the engine won't rev........in any bloody gear! junctions and joining motorways are tricky work, and as for slowing down....hello brakes are you...HOLY **** CROW BAR MY FACE OF THE SCREEN!!!!!!!! nothing, nothing nothing....TOTAL ****ING STOP. genius....well done......

still at least the air con is good, it should be the amount of noise it makes drowning out the weedy stereo.

all in all, what a horrible example of modern car engineering, too big, too slow, too heavy, cheaply made, expensively sold, if it had a fiat badge on it, they'd be slated, but since it comes from wolfsburg, the press are queuing up to polish this turd.

considering the whole "das auto" ethos, and self reverence VAG have, along with some extortionate pricing, you'd think the basics would be well covered, like i said your hands are going to be on the wheel a lot, it should be right, not like holding a lego brick.

i'm slating that car because it's very expensive for what it is.....£14,170 for that awful

So not a fan then ? :p

I think saying VAG diesels are amongst the worst is unfair Pug,Citroen however suck ass. Lack power only good thing is the 1.6 90bhp hdi in the C4 which has unbelievable economy but still has enough power.

To be fair the ones that deliever the power in a big wedge tend to be the older TDI PD design which is 15yrs old.

I know nobodys going to listen because its a fiat site and people will asume im biased, but ALL golfs imo, are hideous, overpriced, overhyped pieces of tat.

yes, even the gti ;) and the newer diesels.

All this reliability nonsense is a myth too, VW's are probably more unreliable than any other maker outside of the french. The electrics on them seem to be the biggest root of problems, they are a total joke.

the materials they use to build them are also fairly poor, but the poor materials are better glued and screwed down which helps cover this fact.

I was looking at a last generation golf a while back and it was terrible, they are usless if you are over 6ft 1, so uncomfortable.

imo most modern fiats have the modern vw's licked in every department, there isnt one car in the vw range apart from maybe the new scirocco i would pick over the equivalent fiat. Thats not me being loyal to fiat, i'd pick any of the current vauxhall, Mazda, Honda, Ford range over any equivalent vw too. Not only are they better cars imo, but better looking, and an awful lot cheaper and better specced.

its just the brakes for me i nearly went through the windscreen even with my seatbelt on there stupidly sharp...although i drove a dsg auto box...it was quick once the turbo came in gutless for the rest....

a 1.4 in a car of this size is always going to struggle.... just as a 1.2 in some cars below its size struggle..... cars are getting heavier and heavier these days.

does for still do the 79bhp dog slow focus 1.4? how much power has the golf got? ..... at least the 1.4 bravo nearly has 100 :D
