Vauxhall Vectra GSI MSD

GSaaaiiiiii

i've driven one, and worked on several of them. i could waffle on and on but i'll try to sum it up quick and simple (just like the car :)).

in a straight line on a big road its quick, round bends it isn't, and round the town its easy to get bogged down at low rpm. build quality is good for that era, they're easy to work on, parts are cheap and easy to get, the interior is actually pretty good. the brakes aren't great, the gear ratios are too long, and tbh its boring even when you're trying to have fun.

a 98 model is pre-facelift so its got the poorer suspension setup (altho 99 is still crap). nothing you can do will make it handle well, even turning it into a calibra didnt work. the chassis dynamics are just wrong wrong wrong. you dont drive it, you just point it in the right direction and hope.

the mondeo ST220 is better in every possible way (actually all the 3.0 V6 models are tbh, even the zetec-s or the titanium) and a mondeo costs the same so i really dont understand why anyone would buy the vectra

Vauxhall's are the worst cars to loose their value
get real. vauxhalls depreciate less than fiats.

These cars are fantastic.I had a SRI V6 and i never has one problem in over 2 years ownership. For £500 its an absolute bargain, you could break one for bits and get £1000!!!
Make sure the waterpump and timing belt (including tensioner) is changed every 40,000,its an £400 job at Vauxhall to get done.
The 2.5 V6 engines if looked after can easily go way over 200,000 miles.
As an Ex Area Rep for the Vauxhall Vectra Owners Club i think i know a few things about vectra and i can answer just about all the questions you need.I also have a mate up here is a V6 engine specialist so any work you need done give me a shout.

These cars are very underated.

The GSI is pushing out 192BHP as standard but for less than £150 you can expect to get over 200 easily.Any questions give me a shout.I only got rid of mine because the commute was killing me in fuel costs and i want a motorbike. If i still lived near to my work i would still have my Vectra.

You cant beat the pull of the V6 just the fuel costs will make you frown

One of the problems with the GSI was that if was tuned for power at a the expense of torque, to be honest as everyday drivers the reqular 2.5 is the better engine and sensible driving will see you mid 30's to the gallon. A guy i worked with had an early Omega V6 that had done 230K miles now with no major problems and still ran as sweet as a nut, it was just the car rusted away around the engine:eek:

My Cavalier has the 3.2 version of the engine (same engine basically just a longer stroke) and even with all the fiddling i've done to it that still manages low 30's.

But saying that i wouldn't be wanting to sell any car with a big engine right now, it is a buyers market and there are some very nice cars at very low money out there right now

I'm only seeing the 2.5 V6 as pushing out 170bhp

the 2.5GSi is 192bhp (but everyone calls it 195 because they dont realise PS is different to bhp)
its faster than a mk2 bravo HGT 0-60! just a shame it tries to kill you when you hit a corner.
