My car has been in at TJ vickers overnight, was given a Suzuki Swift 1.5(VVT) GLX as a courtesy car.

Would like to say that I'm very impressed by the swift, despite it being an 08 plate, the interior is very "back end of the 90's", - funky but without the SUV 'feel'.

Now being 18, this is the quickest car I've driven, 0.60 in 9.7 seconds, and the feeling of the VVT kicking in at around 5k rpm is just something Ive never experienced before:D

I'll be honest, it just felt like a much better car than my GP. Interior space seemed much bigger despite it being a pretty small car by todays standards, the steering was really weighty. Handling was sharp and ride was good.

Hell even the "90"'s style wipers did a better job than the flatblade ones on my gp.

Felt pretty crap going back to my GP today despite having its brakes and engine rattle fixed.(n)

Someone remind me why the GP is a nice car:D

It was a nice car when i went to view one, 1.5 GLX Model with 5 doors though, in a horrible green colour that didnt suit it. it just felt very japenese and a lot like my micra which I was trying to get away from (except it was a bit more sporty and boyish :D).

Wifes got one, nice , good handling car. But the plastics are really cheap compared to even my panda. servicing is only every 9000 miles! apart from that. there is nothing bad about them! She has just past the 30000 mark without problem.
Hope the Panda will be that reliable! :D

I had one as a courtesy car too.
Cheap plasticky interior. Good fun on the open road, pain in the ass around town, with the clutch being too sharp.
I did like it if I only drove on the open road, but I prefer the Panda.

Daughter has just put a deposit on an 08 red 3 door 1.5 VVT in Red from TJVickers, 24 miles on the clock for £8,250. She and I like the car a lot and it has become favourite to replace my GPS next year. Diesel is losing its MPG / cost advantage for me. The 1.5 also has keyless entry / ignition by the way.

I dont worry about the "back end 90's" remark, as long as it is bolted together well, has good electrics etc etc it gets a (y) from me. Price is good, 3 years warranty too. 2nd hand 3 doors hold their price extremely well and are like hens teeth to buy.

i had a gp as curtosy car for a day. and omg was i glad to get back into my mk2 sporting. also had a panda one day that was alot more fun :)

Must have been a 1.2 GP or you would never go back! :D

3 year warranty? Get a Bravo instead :)

I've not driven a swift so can only comment on its looks and diesel vs petrol - I think it's going to look dated quite soon, and with the price of fuel going up diesel is looking the better fuel all the time.

Just had a little play in Excel and came up with this spreadsheet. Before anyone says oh but petrols can get 40mpg+ I'm talking cars of similar class and performance driven in real world scenarios.

Credit where it's due, I thought "oh god not a suzuki swift:(" when they gave me the keys to it.

After 1 evening of driving it, I didnt want to give it back.

It was pure white with the racing chequered flag on the side and it looked pretty damn handsome. Strange because I've never liked the look of the swift, but the white really set it off.

Tbh, I think it looked 'better on my drive' than my GP does.

Cracking car, the engine started up absolutley perfectly, almost before i turned the key lol..., almost like a dog desperate to go of a walk when you go to get the leash:D In comparison my 1.2 GP starts like a bag of spanners, spose it is an ancient engine design though.

I have my GP back now and it does feel more elegant than the swift, but for pure fun, ive never driven anything better than the swift. (probably due to my age)

ive driven quite a few cars to say im only 19 so i can compare a few :D

i think the swift is a reasonably nice car, it does its job and is one hell of an improvement on the old one (y)

of course the suzuki will be better than a 1242 8v GP, that engine was designed for a LIGHT car :(

how do you mean "bag of spanners"? all the 8v engines i have heard start up and run smooth as a nut - especially my old one with 102k on it.

is £8250 book price? Just that after a new car has covered 20 miles dealerships can't sell it as 'a new car'.

Just wondering how much below bookprice £8250 is.

Jon.
