hi all, since i found out i can drive other cars with my insurance, i've been driving my dads audi (100 miles today lol)

first thing is, what should it rev too, it's a 1.9 tdi 130bhp automatic, it only revs to 47500 revs, goes like sh*t off a stick i must say.

another thing is, are diesels designed for that sort of abuse or are you meant to take it easy, speacially with it having 150k on the clock.

last thing, i put my foot down from 20 - 70 (ish) then went to overtake a car from 50 and it didnt seem to have much power, as if the turbo wasn't working. i pulled over for 10 mins and it was fine

thankyou everyone (y)

Diesels don't rev as high as petrols, that figure sounds ok plus the auto will choose kinda for you.

The MAF could be shot or if it's had a hard life the turbo could be dieing.

The PD130 lumps are fooking solid. The record I believe its a PD150 (same engine, different turbo) and one of those hit 800,000 miles, same lump still going, probably a few new turbos. Absolutely insane. Regually see 200k plus.

4.7k revs is fine for a derv. Most are designed to rev higher than that, but as the turbo cant get any more air in, theres not much point.

Flat spot sounds like MAF. Some problems follow dervs everywhere.

(If you think its fast, see my thread on the Ibiza cupra - imagine a bigger turbo, 70 more bhp and 100 ft/lbs of torque more in a car that weighs a LOT less!)

Although it might let you drive other cars you'll probably find thats only 3rd party. So don't bin it!

47,500? You thought about selling the technology to aircraft and racing car menufacturers? :p

4750 must be near limiter. No torque up there so pointless exploring them RPM. As for 130bhp in a diesel being quick - nah that's pretty normal. A re-mapped 2.4JTD must be an incredible thing - I know my father in law's Alfa is.

yeh it will be 3rd party i'd imagine.

lol 47k revs, didn't realise haha

130bhp is quick for me, specially up from a 60bhp punto lol, if it was my car i'd have it mapped straight away (y)

auto's can usually handle the power better than manuals as AFAIK the engine isn't physically connected to the wheels, theres the fluid/oil in the torque convertor inbetween. and the audi g'boxs are regular compared to that of a tractors for a reason, you'll NEVER get a problem with an audi box unless its been driven by an incompetant ahole.

the 130 ain't quick, but tis alright on the motorway. take it this is in an A3 or an a4 saloon? anything bigger and the 1.9tdi is a joke as to make it move anywhere you need to be well into the boost, not ideal for economy or the engine.

as for it dying, prob hitting the limiter a few times in a short journey will trip the ecu into limp mode, park up turn off, drink coffee, continue and it'll be fine. my mates lupo tdi does that, as does the jag xjTTDI we tried out.

and for insurance, I think you'll find you are NOT insured on an audi, ANY AUDI, even a 1.6 na A3
you HAVE to be 19, and have 2yrs driving (with insurance so it shows on compy) otherwise any insurance co (unless specialist, e/g £5k) will just laugh and hang up the phone on you.
otherwise i'd be driving our old URA6, or a URs6  as IMO there is NO better built better easy to drive lump of solidity and road authority  and chics can't tell if its 12yrs old or brand new, such is the audi's bland styling.

you can however drive Bm's, but often not mercs, it seems audi are the most expensive to insure out of the three

thanks for that, i beat a VTR at the lights so it ain't slow, well maye compared to some other/newer diesels but compared to a 60hp punto which i've been driving for 1 year it's amazingly fast (y)

as for the insurance, i am insured, i'll scan the certificate in when i get a chance.

it says as long as the policy holder holds a full UK liscense they may drive any pravate car subject to the terms of the policy, which say it must be road legal, have owners permission and the owner must be insured for that vehicle.(y) :D

dont worry i'm sure you'll be insured 3rd party on it, doesnt matter what car it is as long as the owner/keeper of that car has an insurance policy on the car in their name. you could drive a ferrari 3rd party if you want.

cheers jug, my dad has been on about an older porsche or maybe a kit car after i went to the track day too :D i was even thinking of getting a punto/R5 gt turbo in my dads name, paying for insurance and driving it myself :D wouldn't cost that much because it was £160 for the audi but then his NCB are on the audi.. can you add cars on a policy?

oh and as soon as my dad gets in from work i'll scan the cert in because it's in the audi
