Tom and I have been offered a renault laguna 2 litre, which apparently runs but needs an mot and an exhaust.

Anybody had a laguna and know of anything specific we should look for if we decide to go have a look at it?

Also, any ideas about insurance group etc?

Family owned one for 3 years and I took it over for 6 months, loved it, absolutely loved it. Far better drive and comfort than my Brava with a much better interior. The 2.0 8v isn't much good though in terms of performance or economy. The specs are more than reasonable, my 1.8 8v RT had:

Aircon
Renault CD player with steering wheel controls
Electric tilt/slide sunroof
Electric mirrors

Nothing specific that Tom wouldn't notice I doubt.

Can wear front tyres due to engine position, suspension fragile and prone to frequent shock and spring replacements.

Comfy car to drive, quite decent standard stereos.

So worth a looksee for a freebie then I guess.

Friend, who's a mechanic, got it for his son who didnt bother to get his license, so been standing for a year.

Will have to go and view I think.

Thanks guys

The earlier generation of Lagunas were great cars. Renault have gone back to normal for the current crop. This one is owned by relatives and has lasted forever with no probs, and is very comfortable and plenty big enough.

strange, it said uploading, anyroad up here 'tis(1.6 RT)

oooo spooky coicidence lol

got a couple of quotes for insurance for Tom and it will be about £400, so not bad at all.

How are they on fuel consumption?

Been told should be around £100 to get it through MOT, so could be a winner!

Bit of difference to a cinq, be able to put it in the boot :D

Huge boot, as I said before, poor economy and performance from the 1.8 and 2.0 8vs.

Even so, I absolutley loved mine, the driving position, the gear change, the ride and the interior are very good in my opinion.

Don't go expecting it to be quick, it's not! They are both very calm engines, both nice to drive but you don't get a lot more out of them when pushed compared with normal driving.

There's lots of little things that you will appreciate of the cars :) I'd have had one if I could have found a dti more easily.

I see. TBH 115BHp from a 2.0 8v Im not expecting much (the 8v Fiat TC is 130BHp), leisurely is ok...its a family wagon more than a Cinq is ;).

As for appreciable little bits, thats something that Renault appear to be damn good at IMO....both my parents mid 90's Renaults were awesome cars for quirky stuff they had.

lol, pipe and slippers next

oooo, talking of slippers, do you still have that pair I got you for hospital? :p :D

That 1.6 is fine on fuel, mid 30s for mixed use. It is not a sports car, you just relax and let it take you there but it's done Edinburgh/London lots of times without stress, so yeah, if its that generation get it.

Its a 1995 (N reg) 1998cc, unknown mileage as yet.

Friend just wants it off the driveway!

The 1.8 Fiat of a similar age (and 16v, in the Brava for example) is 113 bhp and 114 lb/ft, basically the same as the 8v in the Renault. The newer Renault 16v from 1997 on was 126 bhp and more torques.

I don't know what a normal model will have, I think mine had some factory extras. Hope you like it :)

Well, we have got the Laguna now, needs an MOT, service and back box. also, needs a damn good tidy, but mechanically sound by the look of things!

For a freebie, we hope (fingers crossed) she'll be a good'un in a couple of weeks.

:yeahthat:

an early laguna was too good for a renault badge, i cant really fault them. the newer ones have the usual electrical nightmares and shoddy build quality. one of my neighbours knows this only too well. a few weeks ago one of the front wheels came off when his wife was driving round a corner.

Well that's not the fault of the car now is it ;)

Nice car Angel, hope you like it, I can't sing enough praises about them but I am old before my time so no idea if it suits people that want a bit more fun from their car.

The Laguna II was obviously a much better car but thanks to all the technology on it, there were initial difficulties.

Laguna III out this year.
