Hello, Im new here.....I have a Abarth that I am trying to sell. My log book has been cloned and the plates to my car are being used on a car that someone is trying to sell, dirt cheap I might add. Is there anywhere on here that we can try and find the owner of this stolen car? The police really don't want to know as cloning plates is not a criminal offence!!

Yes I know I have since spoken to another police officer and they have clarified that it is! I’m not sure what the police in the control room was talking about ??*♀️

I would urge you to contact ACTION FRAUD at the earliest opportunity.

You also need to inform DVLA.

Although this might not be your location, you may find some useful guidelines HERE

Action Fraud are very helpful and will pass all your information on to the right departments very quickly.
I have personally used Action Fraud and can vouch for their excellent efficiency when my wife fell for a scam.

If the car for sale is not too far away, make an appointment to view it. Then press the police to join you there, at that time, so they can see both cars together, with the vendor, and you with the V5 and a car showing the correct VIN.

Second thoughts.
Are you sure there's actually another car for sale?
I have heard that sometimes people will just clone an advert. So if your ad has been seen, someone else will clone the ad, offer at a lower price, accept an offer, or take a deposit, then disappear with the deposit.
I have seen ads on eBay where the same pic appears twice. It looks like a duplicate ad, by the same seller, but any links within the ad are different. Such ads usually demand a deposit within a short ime of auction ending. I guess when arriving to collect teh car, you'll be in a worng place, or perhaps the right place with the actual owner unaware of your interest.

Not sure if it was legitimate or not but I once had a guy trying to sell my engine on eBay once, he had ripped the picture of my engine bay from one of my YouTube videos. He argued when I confronted him but disappeared after I reported it to eBay, I know eBay might remove the ad but unlikely the whole eBay account for something fairly minor

There was a case @10 years ago

£10k Audi for £6k on the web.. various sites

My mate was VERY interested..

The tale went:
Ive gone back home to Italy.. its here with me.. wire a deposit.. and I will hold it

Very complex transaction.. they went to Italy to collect it..
Having Insured the car.. booked the ferry..etc
Contact from seller stopped

Cost a LOT to get back to UK carless

However..9 months later.. on Watchdog type show..
A guy was in the same position.. same Audi photo.. selling in London

Guy sent Brother in law to collect it with the £6k cash

Resulted in :
No money.. baseball bat ..2 months in Hospital

My mate got off lightly

Do beware..!!
