I wondered if there is a fellow Fiat owner about in the East Devon area that has an OBD scanner that I can do a Phonic Wheel alignment with?

The story:- I bought a 2005 1.1L 169 Panda Active for my beloved! To cut a long story short the engine was replaced before i got it and when it gets to motorway cruising speed the engine light comes on. I suspect a phonic wheel alignment has not been done when the engine was replaced.
Thanks in advance and hope someone is able to help

code needs reading anyhow (y)

but as far as I know the panda don't need to be relearnt. Plenty of cam belt changes without throwing a hissy fit and haven't thrown a code even when fitted 1 tooth out.

Hi Chaps
Thanks for the replies, I dont have a code reader, I had one for my old car but its make specific so wont read the Panda :(
It might be something else but the phonic wheel matched the symptoms quite well. I had the battery off while it was in storage and now engine light is back off. Will it still have the codes stored anyone know? South Devon is a looooong way from East Devon sadly.

battery off clears code

any £10 generic reader will read generic engine codes and clear them

probably cheaper than the petrol.

South Devon is a looooong way from East Devon sadly.

Google says 33 miles East Devon to Torquay. Not bad for Devon and the roads are ok.

But generally, everywhere is a long way away in Devon. It's either an actual long way (Exeter- Plymouth 56 miles. Tiverton Plymouth 66 miles) or the roads are slow and narrow.

I love the place but rapid transit, it most certainly isn't.

Torquay would be about 1 1/2 hours from here, so 3 hours trip plus 10 mins for code reading, a bit of a long trip, was hoping their might be someone localish. Maybe I should think about getting a scanner that can do most cars, as electronics is my trade. Any suggestions as there are lots out there now?!

The best tool for Fiats is MultiECUscan. There are numerous threads on it. Be careful where you buy the OBD-2 readers and adaptors as there are many knock-offs.

It works best on Windows but old XP laptop will do the job. Install the software before connecting the adapter.

My 53 reg Panda 1.2 needed a relearn after a cambelt change. Same symptoms as op.

Strange as long as the battery been disconnected

it should relearn itself in the First couple of minutes of idle ??? unlike some of the older Punto's

2003 is early in the production run were they on old technology

Not sure if its still the case with the latter models

I didn't change it myself. I don't think the battery would have been disconnected. I took it back and he did a relearn.

If youve got a CAM sensor.. by the filler cap..

Then yes its possible it gets out of sync.

Grandes are the common victims for this..
My panda never suffered.. but if George says it can.. fair enough.

OBD is an industry standard..

Basic ENGINE codes are common.. so your old device should give relevant code info

2005 Panda reports P0300 P0301 P0304 codes, Phonic Wheel?

Hi Chaps
I'm now entering the "exciting" new chapter on the Panda. After some reading and youtube watching I purchased an OBD scanner called Bluedriver.

It blu toofs 2 me fone like, innit :slayer:

Anyway I am getting P0300 P0301 P0304 codes.

Now having done some forum reading (its an awesome resource, well done everyone!) I think I am back to a phonic wheel relearn.

I will try it today and get back to you.

Regards

missfire at higher revs points to a coil pack

swap them over, clear the codes and take it for a drive.

if the codes change then you have confirmed the coils packs

if the same codes are logged post back and we will have to diagnose further

Hi koalar thanks for that will do that right now.
OK swapped over, I now see why you diagnosed coil pack, as one feeds 1 and 4 and the other 2&3 (found only 2 m4 bolts holding one of them in!).

Took it for a spin and no codes.

Will go for a longer spin later today, the suspect pack input connector has lost its clip, it may have been a little loose, we shall see.

no sure whats going on here

on an engine with the cam sensor its not unknow for it to be accidently left off after a belt change

the car runs fine

However if you then connect it back up it will throw an engine check light. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes is all thats required. Then just start the car and let it idle has been enough in the past. Punto's relearn yes Panda's no

not sure why yours is different ? The main thing its working fine (y)

No Codes Yet

Hi all have now driven 60 or so miles, doing the school run so multiple short journeys and I have not had any codes come back up yet.

I surmise that either i haven't had it reving high enough for long enough yet or my swapping the coils and re connecting the wiring securely, has fixed the problem?

I now have a new problem, have found an oil leak coming from where the sump pan joins the gearbox, I will start a new thread in the Panda section for this.

Thanks again for the help on this problem
Regards
Stuart

No need for a new thread. Confirm the oil is not running down from above. However, the sump pan is noted for rusting. New ones cost about £30. The sealant can be hard to separate but the iron block is tough and the old sump is scrap so dont be gentle with it.
