Hello, I am new to the forum but not new to Fiats. (y)

I have just bought a 2009 Grande Punto Sporting 1.9.
Its faulty, it was cheap (£250), still Mot'd and literally under 1/4 mile away.

Not sure what is wrong with it but I am sure it will be steep learning curve for me = old and not used to sensors, EML lights, fault codes etc!!
In Northumberland

GPSorting2009 :)

Hi and welcome on board !

The steep learning curve would start nicely if you add a few other tennies and invest in MES so you wouldn't blindly seek what's going wrong with her ...

BRs, Bernie

If someone here helped You fix -or better, understand- your issue, hit the thanks icon @ bottom right corner, it's free and makes us feel helpy ;-)

The free version is more a demo than a working one: you can't do much...
You said the car was faulty, what's wrong with it ?

To be honest I do not know, I have seen it once It started up and idled so I thought well lets have a shot at saving this GP sporting.
Its a 2009 1.9 multijet Sporting, 120,000 miles.
The owner said there was a bang and it spluttered, lots of black smoke and it wont rev over around 3000rpm ish.
The turbo I thought but it sounds like its spinning up OK and not running away with its self :)
It could simply be a pipe blown off?, EGR valve? DPF?

I like to have a tinker with faulty cars and motorbikes - keeps me out of bother!

I am picking it up tonight - it is literally around the corner from me so should get it home OK
Any input would be grateful

Well I have the car on the drive, 1 minute and I was home.
It is Kangarooing and wont rev up.
Detroitdiesel this is what I am hoping for a blown pipe or come adrift, so when I look in the morning fingers crossed
The seller said it was slightly overheating, he did not drive it far like this.

Clandestine drive home in the dark as it is on SORN

Cheers

Any lights ON @ dashboard ? Sounds like she has been turned to lump mode ...

I think it could be in limp mode to be honest.
Nothing showing on the dash, I has a faulty airbag!
I am taking MAF off today and clean it.
Disconnect the battery for a bit.

The battery was flat as witches tit last night, been on charge this morning, fired up no bother, its very smelly and not burning the diesel very well I think.

OK guys I will start another thread about my exploits with this £250 challenge, and thank you for your input :)

Cheers

Great to hear that your problem seems to be an easily cured one. Looks like you bought a nice little bargain!

Steep learning curves? Yup, I'm an "oldie" too and much happier hitting things with big hammers or chiseling with a chipped screwdriver! Like you, I've also been "fiddling about" with wee Fiats for many years and find myself challenged by all this electronic gear. About 3 years ago I bought a fully licensed version of Multiecuscan from Gendan (very helpful people who have happily continued to give ongoing support). It is an ongoing learning experience for me - and there is a great depth of knowledge available through the good people on this forum - but when I look back to what I knew a few years ago compared to now, I've managed to climb up quite a few rungs of the "ladder of knowledge".

I bought the Multiplexed interface because I wanted the convenience it affords but the multi lead adaptors would seem to work just as well - you just have to connect with the right leads for the controllers you wish to communicate with (you get on screen prompts.) I have read reports that some of the cheap interfaces don't work very well and some require modification before they will work properly. So if, like me, you are not all that savvy in these matters, Buying from an approved seller - Gendan being just one - is probably the best option.

When you buy your licence is for one year. (that was how it worked when I bought mine) so during that year you can download updates for free. After that time expires you must pay to download new versions but the installed version will continue to work just fine. I've so far found that my 3.8 version (latest one is 4.5) does everything I want on our 2010 Panda and 2012 Punto so haven't found it necessary to update.

If you're going to continue messing about with Fiats you really need to get into MES Especially on the diesels where you need it to reset the computer after oil changes so the DPF regen thing works properly and, of course, for service rests which you can't using the dash buttons (as i can on the VAG stuff).

Good luck with it all and welcome to our community

I think is a good idea to get a subscription, many thanks for that.

Some more good news - The sunroof - Skydome works perfectly, I am very very happy :slayer:
