Hi - I have long lusted after a Barchetta and am considering buying one in the EU and bringing it back to the UK. Partly as a cheaper option and partly as a resto project.
Has anyone got any advice, or experience they can share please?
Many thanks

Hi,
Barchettas in France are more expensive. Holland possibly cheaper and Germany as more were sold in Germany than anywhere else.
Registering a car in UK if you request from DVLA a used vehicle import pack they will send it to a UK address and it will contain all the forms you need. See gov.uk/dvlaforms
Basics are:
Within 14 days of arrival with the car in UK you should/must inform HMRC. This can be done online using the Notification of Vehicle Arrivals (NOVA) se online gov.uk/nova-log-in
HMRC will tell you if any VAT or duty is payable. Normally if the car is from a European Union registered country, over 6 Months old with more than 3000miles and VAT was paid originally then no duty will be asked for. However, I don’t know if the Gov have now added a polution tax but the info pack would let you know hopefully.
You should obtain a Certificate of Conformity (CoC). If this is not with the car then one can be obtained at a cost from Fiat UK. If the car was previously registerd in UK you may get away without one if the previous V5 in UK had the certificate number .
Headlights will need the internals changing to suite UK driving. You may need to swap over the rear fog with the reversing light but you may get away with this if the MoT station you use is not bothered.
A valied MoT will be required. The MoT station may require the speedometer to have mph marked on the dial, I have got away with mph marked with small stickers placed in the corrosponding kph speeds. A more proffessional result is to change the speedo number sheet on the instrument panel. Fairly straight forward but time consuming with a decent printer. Alternately pay DTR to do it for you.
You will also need proof of purchase, an invoice usually works.
You will need the existing registration document
The process can take over 6 weeks before you get a certificate with the registration so you can purchase plates.
Once I even had to show an insurance certificate but there you go.

Hope this has helped, usual caveat, I may have missed something so be aware.
Good luck

When I brought a Belgian car into the UK, the DVLA were very particular about wording from a garage about the speedo being in mph and the headlight direction conforming to rhd specs - this was over and above having a MOT......even though this is checked in the MOT, and being a Mercedes you can change the light direction and speedo display
First time the document and application was rejected as the wording wasn’t exact. I spoke with a guy recently who is reregistering his U.K. car from France and he was having the exact same problem
