Hello There,

Strange thing happened last night. I got out my vehicle and I had left my keys in the pot inside the car. I went to open the back door but found the car had locked itself! Fortunately my Step Son came down with the spare set. I will in future keep my keys on my person but I am mystified as to how this could have happened. Has this ever happened to any other member?

This is odd only because it is not supposed to happen.

I've tried locking my key inside the car (boot, rear seats, front seats) and have failed to do so. Was one of the first things I checked out with being new to the key less entry/exit on my 500X back in 2015.

I might start playing again.

The valeters at my dealer managed it, I had to take the spare key with me when I collected it

Well I think I'm going to have to play again.

I'm now thinking low battery in key fob or if a key fob is left stationary in the car for an extended period of time (say 30 minutes) could be fooling the system.

Worse still if this can happen and the deadlocks are applied are you are a long way from home then you have real problems.

I've complain to Fiat about my 500X on the grounds of safety that after a software update pushing the button on the door handle to lock automatically applies the deadlocks which is totally wrong and unsafe for anyone in the car (e.g. kids at petrol station).

The dealer explained to me that the fob sensors all face OUTWARDS so are unlikely to detect a fob locked inside the car, although they did manage to lock the car from the outside??

I get called out to keys locked in cars about every 2 to 3 weeks during the winter.
I generally pick the car open and advise the owner to have me make a spare.
Amazed how many dont bother and call me a few weeks later for the same thing.
Ive been out to all sorts from a focus to a bentley.
Seems it may be to do with voltage drop or spike.

Well I actually demonstrated my own theory today. I collected my car from the tyre dealer and didn't realise till I got home that they hadn't given me back the spare fob. Only later did I discover that they had put it in a cup holder and I had successfully managed to lock the car with the fob inside. It had not unlocked when I opened the car either.

Agree this can be caused by low fob battery - the system does not detect the key is present when this happens. It can also occur when you have the key in the same coat pocket as your mobile phone..............
