We fitted a new wiper motor and now have a problem of the wipers parking in the up position.

We are new to fixing probs with a Ducato.
Any help will be appreciated

Just thinking out loud and not having a solution.

Is the Ducato LHD or RHD and therefore would the wiper motor be different?

Would removing the blades and letting the spindles cycle watching the area the sweep arc would take so that when fitting the blades in the parked position they worked on the screen and not try to wipe the body, if you get my meaning.

Let the wiper motor park before fitting the arms. Check it with arms raised before running the arms on the screen. Don't want them going down when they should go up.

just thinking...rear window wiper motors stop in the up position for the back window. :idea:

How did you 'park' the system?

removed wiper arms and run the wiper motor
When we placed the arms back on it runs down first, causing the arms to hit the bonnet

Took the wiper arms off and run the wipers one cycle then switched off.
Fitted the arms, then when it starts they go down instead of up

Hi, Try changing the polarity of the cables at the motor. On a DC motor the polarity has to be correct.

It's difficult to diagnose without seeing the assembly, but it sounds like the motor crank and the arm cranks have somehow been assembled half a turn in error. Try removing the wiper arms, then pop the linkage off the motor crank (it's a ball and socket joint that snaps together). Then rotate both wiper spindles by half a turn before reattaching the linkage to the motor. Check the operation before reattaching the wiper arms. I can't guarantee success but it could be worth trying.


I'd advise against modifying the motor wiring polarity, it's not just a simple 2 wire motor and you could introduce complications.

In the UK the cost of a whole new wiper motor plus linkage assembly is not greatly more than just the motor, so many people swap the lot.

Let’s get the wipers-working correctly swap the lot motor and control unit there so naughty behaving like that
