Help please. First time on the forum. We have a 2013 Panda 4x4 with intermittent issues with the ignition light coming on (and off). I have tried the obvious and it hasn't rectified it? Can anyone help at all please? Nothing obvious or consistent at all....

We haven’t used a scanner on it, as the light never comes on when you want it to! Not the alternator, not the battery, not the earth lead. Very Intermittent

Many thanks. Forgive me for asking, but is this a wild guess or have you seen this happen before? There is no pattern as to when the ignition light comes on (or off). It is not gear related, revs related, accelerating or decelerating, not bump related etc etc. It just comes on when it feels like it and goes off again when it feels like it. There is a slight dimming of the lights when it comes on when it is dark. I feel certain that it is something very straightforward so you 'could' be right!

Do you mean the battery charging light?

If its glowing feintly.. it is probably alternator output.

Had that on every 1500cc and above old fiat I owned.. never caused an issue.

It will be the unit that bolts onto the alternator.. carries the brushes ;)

I wouldn't say it is glowing faintly - it is either on or off! The charging light does not flicker depending on revs or anything. Would the 'unit' you are referring to be replaced as a matter of course if one changed the alternator (which the FIAT dealer did at the start of this charade!)...

Thank you, John

The problem was there before the alternator was replaced (that was why the alternator was replaced, although as a farmer I had my doubts at the time that that was what the problem was, and I have been proved right), and has persisted following the replacement. Consequently I don't believe that will be the reason

Maybe..

Get a 12v meter.. that plugs in the lighter socket.

You should be able to see IF the alternator output changes.. as your dash light plays around.

14v charging..vs..12v battery on ots own.

I have just ordered one myself @£5
As I have a vehicle with a cooked battery..and dont wish to fry another :)
