Tipoff 1.6 diesel Station wagon

I recently bought a 2017 1.6 Fiat Tipo (diesel). The manufacturer's figures claimed that'll the car would have a combined mpg of 75mpg. My car does about 45 mpg combined. I am sensible driver and bought the car because it seemed cheap to run. What combined mpg are fellow Tipo owners getting? Any suggestions how to get somewhere near Fiats mpg claims?

Welcome to the forum

Short answer, you won't, those figures are achieved under lab conditions so take any manufacturer quoted mpg figure with a handful of salt. Also, if your 45mpg figure comes from the on board computer, it's probably being optimistic. I have the same engine in my MiTo, doing mostly motorway driving. Trip comp shows 55.7mpg currently, but last tank was closer to 51mpg. I do like to give it beans though

I found this 1.3 Tipo on Fuelly getting 63.5 mpg average, so it's not far off, the 1.6 ought to be better. My car for reference - http://www.fuelly.com/car/alfa_romeo...lipze3k/668719

I have the Punto Evo also with the same 1.6 multijet, very similar car to @Eklipze3k ‘s Mito, slightly lighter than your tipo and I drive with roof bars and bike racks on all the time, but I’m still getting 49mpg on the computer and I have a very heavy foot and 170k miles on the clock so well worn.

Re: Tipoff 1.6 diesel Station wagon

It really depends what type of journey you do.

My 2018 1.6 diesel gives a regular 43MPG

I have a 9 mile each way commute with the odd 30 or 40 mile run, on a decent run it gives about 55MPG

I know that my drive type is not best for a diesel, but we're happy with it, it does the job. The Abarth we had before gave 32MPG, so we are better off.

The manufacturer figures are in a lab environment, as said before, try someone like Honest John's website for more realistic figures

I've got the Tipo 2017 1.6D SW. Just done a run to the south coast and back (600 miles) Average was 55.4mpg. It's about the best I've had out of it. 70 to 80 with air con on and a full load including dog in boot. Did the entire journey on a full tank (55 quid).

Bit surprised at some of these figures from the Diesel I avarage about 42 from my petrol with local journey and a few shorter motorway Trip's
A decent motorway journey 20+ miles normally gets me 47-51mpg ish. Best I've seen way 56 with a long 50mph section for roadworks

Had a 1.3 500 before this that could get 64-65 no problem on the mway had 70 from taking it easy following trucks ect so a bit of a drop for me

Re: Tipoff 1.6 diesel Station wagon

I am astounded. My recently departed Bravo 1,6D was easily capable of 90mpg when new and was still doing 54mpg when not trying at all. 65 easy on a long run. The variation from one car of the same type to another is astoundingly large though. If you have the fuel computer, use the instant consumption for a few days and see what works best in terms of driving style for your economy. Driving styles affect cars differently and you may need to change how you drive to get good mpg. Not a criticism just life. I have a Panda TA and htis needs different techniques to get its best combination of speed and economy.

Good luck!
