Hi, Have posted in Multipla specific forum but have had no replies so apologies for posting in second location but hoping for some help as we are getting critical at this stage to try to get some answers!
Currently on our second multipla, 2007 1.6 16v 100. Have it with 3 years and generally running fine all that time.
However in recent weeks we are having issues where it keeps accelerating when you remove foot from accelerator pedal and it also splutters when you accelerate up through the gears. This is getting dangerous as you can imagine.
I have read a few other threads here and tried the following...disconnected battery for a while, cleaned the white connector in passenger footwell. Tried to locate white connector near accelerator but couldn't find it (forum seemed to show one on brake pedal). Got mechanic to clean throttle body. All to no avail, issue has got worse. A family friend does vehicle diagnostics for a living and he plugged in on 2 separate occasions and nothing showing up. He suggested it was more mechanical or possibly air intake issue due to crack on a pipe rather than electrical or sensor based. So we are left with it still occurring at the moment.

From other forum threads which seemed to have same problem i ordered the RPM sensor and throttle position sensor (TPS). This brings me to where we are now, 2 questions to start...

1. The TPS sensor seems to be different to one i ordered so just wanted to confirm location of TPS sensor, on side of throttle body I assumed? The one I ordered seems to be different shape to anything on the throttle body. I want to replace this before RPM sensor I think. I think I have found that the different engine codes have meant different parts even for same year! Found our engine code today and its a 186AXC1A (bifuel!!! didn't know this)whereas I thought it was a 186AXA1A (regular petrol), now that I found the name plate.
2. Where is the RPM sensor located on this engine? I seem to be getting different locations and possibly different names (crank/camshaft sensor) from different threads here. I want to be able to guide next mechanic as expereinces not been great to date.
3. Thinking would a new throttle body be called for?

I'll leave it at that for now and appreciate your replies!

Thanks Charlie, he basically said nothing showed up each time, I was there the second time and he showed me the screen and nothing on it!

Could this be as simple as a intake gasket not sealing?

When I worked as a diesel mechanic we had a truck doing similar, it turned out to be the inlet manifold gasket, we found the gasket in one piece but thin in one place caused thru a bolt being loose enough to allow air ingress, the fluttering gasket then slowly got shaken so much it started to disintegrate, resulting in no slow running control.
New gasket, job done.

Thanks Oletimer...its funny but it has been suggested that this seems to be an air intake issue now by 3-4 people and that its something more traditional and mechanical that electronic possibly, so you might be onto something. I will follow up next week as away next few days.
In the mean time we have replace RPM sensor and throttle body with brand new parts and still the issue exists. Had it in a garage for these jobs and they have thrown in the towel now, but they didn't go chasing the air leak possibility when I suggested it. Must collect it from them tomorrow and find someone who is willing to go after this possibility!
Thanks again.
