Hi, and thanks for letting me join!
I am a member of quite a few forums as I have a few vehicles to maintain. This car belongs to my other half, so strictly speaking she should be the member, but seeing as I have the job of fixing things around here it is down to me to sort this problem, assuming I can.

Whilst driving the car we have noticed a clack clack noise when driving over bumps. None of the usual suspects was found to be defective, ie ball joints and wheel bearings, but I have found the inner drive shaft, where it enters the gearbox has play in the shaft And if I whack it with my hand makes a click noise, which I reckon is the culprit. There is some oil seepage from this location too.

So is this likely to be a bearing, worn splines, or some such?
Is it an easy fix?
Is it an expensive fix?
Is it a drive shaft problem or gearbox .

Here's hoping!

Cheers John

Sounds like the output bearings in the differential... the bearings that the driveshafts push into.... I’m not sure if the diff can be unbolted from the gearbox in situ... I think it’s s gearbox out job.

You will have to pull the driveshafts to remove the gear box. You might get lucky and find its the shaft inner CV coupling.
