Hello and welcome.
I completely agree with DGPunto. I've run old Pandas for years but only recently (about 3 years ago) did we buy cars new enough to need diagnostic equipment - when my boy bought his 2012 Punto and we replaced my wife's 1992 Panda with a 2010 Panda dynamic eco. I did a lot of research and, whilst there are options,
MES is really the only sensible choice for in depth DIY diagnostics on our cars.
You can get a preview of what you are buying by downloading the free version from the
MES site and clicking on the simulate button - bottom right of screen - where you can work through what it can do for you. There's a lot of info on our forum too.
Then you have the decision as to which version to buy and what interface/interfaces. You can get up and running really quite cheaply with limited access then buy the other leads to give access to more modules. I already had Ross Tech's VCDS package for "speaking" to my Volkswagen (Seat and Skoda) group cars which needs just one lead so I have become used to plugging in with just one interface and being able to access everything.
MES do a version they call "Multiplex" which does just this. So, although relatively expensive when compared to the multi lead version, I decided to bite the bullet and go for the multiplexed version. I have not regretted my choice. It's very handy to be able to plug in - for instance before starting a service - and quickly do a whole vehicle scan so you know quickly if there are any stored codes. I also like that it has lots of on screen prompts as to what a particular task needs you to do - explore the Parameters and Actuators screens - and helps when a fault is brought up. I like being able to graph stuff too,
MES does this well. Also, if you buy the Multiplexed version the license is embedded in the interface so you can load up the software to as many laptops as you like and the interface will work with them (I think - I have it installed on both my laptops) Whereas the other, multilead versions are licensed to the laptop the software is loaded to.
Lastly, although I am very deeply into my cars/old motor cycles and vintage horticultural machines, my computer/tech skills are very limited. I bought my
Multiecuscan package from Gendan after contacting them several times with questions I needed answered. They have continued to give free and very useful support since I bought and I can recommend them with great confidence. For instance, at this time I'm in conversation with Grant about whether you can use
MES to access fuel trim values. So obviously I don't know who your local supplier might be but having the support of a local authorized supplier might be something you would like to consider?
Kind regards
Jock
