Hi. I own a fiat 500x 2016 model. All i need to know is how do I enable my
Sat nav so it tells me about traffic alert s ? i recently sent it into the dealer but nothing has changed. Any clarification would be much appreciated

I have the 6.5" unit and I didn't get any traffic alerts at all until I created a uConnect Live account and used it via my mobile. I don't think that the basic unit on its own has very much in the way of traffic information
 
On a similar note, I’ve just purchased a 2015 Cross Plus and the Sat Nav never seems to be able to find my location. Anyone else have this issue? Do I need to have the dealer look at the GPS antenna?
 
Alan, I also have the 6.5 unit and you should be able to get basic traffic information through it. With Tom Tom enabled I have not found much difference, just seems to be more sensitive about speed cameras, bleeps alot of the time. Just go through the menus to see if you have missed something, some items only seem to appear when ignition is on.

What I want to know is does the satnav fail to work when the car is out of warranty or so many years old, will I need to pay to extend the service.


Some of the very first cars must be at this point now so would be interested to know

Cheets Ron, but when I was quoted the best part of £200 for the dealer to update the maps I bought 7" Garmin with lifetime maps for £170 that now sits nicely on top of the dash. It doesn't bother me one bit but I won't be conned into giving the money to Fiat/MOPAR. The Garmin unit uses the same maps as uConnect (HERE) and has more functionality.
 
I have 6.5 version. And I have registered with u connect. But I still do not get live updates. Is this a service i have to pay for. ?

You don't have to pay (currently) but you have to

Create a uConnect Live account
Download the uConnect Live app on your Smart Phone
Start the app on your phone and log in to your account
Launch the app (or have it auto-start) from the Apps screen (far right button of the in-car unit)
Wait for everything to connect - the blue 'Information' button on the Nav screen will turn purplish in colour
You're good to go

My experience was that traffic info was only ever played over the speaker when I was following a route. I think there might be info on the Nav home screen under Live Services or something. I'm sorry, I can't go look as I've deleted it all and gone down the Garmin route. If your blue Information button turns purple and renames itself, traffic info should be behind that button somewhere if I recall. Hope that helps a little.

Here we go, have you tried this?

With the uConnect app up and running on both your phone AND the car, go to the Nav screen, after a short while it should change to this

Press the Live button, you get this

Press the HD Traffic button top left, gives you this

Finally, pressing Show Traffic should take you here

At last I have had access to Uconnect Live, it works at the moment!
Maps are another story, why can’t they just give u an SD card to plug in on the 6.5 model???

Now my 500x is again to the dealer for trying to update the 6'5". I am trying to update the maps for more than 2 year. I boucht the 500x half 2016 and it came with maps From 2014. Last year They manage to update the software. It was necessary for newer maps. After that my battery drain in 1 night. After I think a reset, it works fine again. In my connect account it says already more than 2 year that there is an update for my car. Nobody knows witch maps. I hope at least 2018.
 
Larger screen only the dealer can do the smaller screens you can do yourself via USB stick via tomtom website. I spent three hours of my life trying because my fiat dealer told me you can do it yourself. Next day I went in and showed them in black and white dealer only on larger screen. Yes they did it for free but was under warranty which every time I went back wasn't easy and will never buy a car from them again.
