This is my last silly question..... I have found an engine 814027S. What does the s mean? Will it the right engine?

Thank you in advance ?

Hi,
The S suffix indicates common rail direct injection. This has different injectors. I don't know for sure but am pretty certain that it will not be compatable with the ECU and fuel system on your van. If your engine has a mechanical pump with a separate fuel line to each injector the 27S won't work unless you swap the ECU, which is not practical. I doubt the non-common rail injectors would fit the 27S head but it's moot as you have a trashed injector.

His van doesn't have an ECU, it's a 93 with a mechanical injection system. The common rail came in 2001. He needs a pre 2001 engine.

Correct,
I'm tired, What I was trying to say was unless he swapped TO the ECU pump etc for the common rail engine. Too much for the OP I think.

If the UK is anything like Ireland the chance of finding a 2.5 engine is slim, the 2.8 is more common.

So I need an engine before 2001. If I was to buy... for example...8140.47 1986 would this fit? Thanks

The 8140.47 was a 2nd gen engine so there isn't a 1986 version for the Ducato. In any case it has an ECU so will need re-wiring. It also has an intercooler that you would have to source with ducting etc. If you bought a complete van with a .47 engine it would be possible but a fair bit of work. For older engines a .07 or .67 non-turbo will probably fit with minimal changes but 25% less power. You could possibly fit the turbo and fuel pump from your engine to a .07 but would probably need new injectors too.
Sorry to be blunt, but if you have to ask these questions you are going to struggle with anything other than a straight swap.

I am just trying to source the engine. I won't have no part in fitting it. Just trying to see what options of engines I have ? thank you for your input. Much appreciated

Well the ebay listing says it's a 1986 8140.47 but other references say this engine and year combination does not exist. I suspect that it's a typo and the vehicle it's from is a 1996. In any case there are significant differences betwen the .27 and .47. I seriously doubt tht a normal garage would undertake this swap. The OP says he's not doing it himself.

Thank you. All I want is an engine ?

to be completely frank you seem to be having problems understanding which engines will be compatible for your motor whether your fitting it or someone else is so in simple terms as their are only two compatible engines the 8140-27-----8144-07----- and /or possibly 8144-21 they are the engines used for the first generation models looking at or considering any others would be a waste of time, unless you have the knowledge and ability to upgrade to the 2.8 but that entails a lot more then just an engine swap and time alone will be very expensive if your not doing it yourself. and as previously stated all this information can be found on Wikipedia FIAT DUCATO

I am having problems understanding anything to do with this motorhome. Thanks for all your input. Much appreciated.

Cant see how the mechanic can diagnose the belt was fitted incorrectly! Your engine dropped a valve, changing a timing belt wouldn't require going near the valve collets. If the belt was fitted wrong you would have more than one cylinder hitting valves! By the look of that the revs were high as well. I would doubt any court would side with you. Sorry for the negative view but unfortunately thats life!
