Hi just new to forum so apologies if I’m in the wrong bit. Looking for bit of advice. My daughters car dash has airbag, seatbelt, warning lights stuck on, stop/start light is stuck on and doesn’t function and the mileage is flashing. Quick search and am I right in thinking this is a common fault . I’m booked into fiat garage next week but is there anything I can try and find myself the thought of a big garage bill is giving me the fear I am being charged £114 just for diagnostics . I’ve tried a new battery but nothing else thanks

It’s a 2013 model John.whats proxy alignment? I pulled the rubber out both ends of wire and as far as I can see the wires look in good condition. I tried a diagnostics machine my dad had but it said no codes stored .

The wiring damage is not apparent unless you remove the covering.
Proxy alignment is where the computers have stopped talking to each other in the car and is a method of restoring this, and often shows up as flashing mileage.
Unless you have the correct computer software a generic code scanner won't work.
Does everything work as expected on the hatch?

I guess I would have to slice open the rubber cover at the boot then? Would it be ok or just tape it up afterwards. Yeah hatch is fine

Yes and yes however if everything work including the hatch release button on the lid and not the remote it's less likely but well worth checking as it fails in all cars at some point(like our 59 plate a year or so ago) so do check it.
Was is the battery the original ? Anything happen if once it was changed

No, don't disturb the rubber cover itself, but you may need to pull back the insulating wrap around the cables. If you cut & tape the cover, it'll provide even less protection to the wiring inside it.

The most usual failure point is where the wiring enters the hatch itself, right at the end of the rubber cover - you can easily pull the cover back enough to inspect it withour damaging the cover itself. Curiously, the cover is often intact whereas the wiring underneath is badly frayed and split. The wiring at the end of the grommet attached to the main bodshell is usually sound.

Pictures in this post.
