Hi,
just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I'm a first time Fiat owner but really enjoying the car! It's an older model which means I can actually work on it and understand what could be wrong with it!

My first question to the forum is how to disconnect the fuel vapour hoses at the quick-release fittings? It seems I have two types (see images) but I can't figure out how any one of them works so that I can disconnect them. Your help is much appreciated.

Have a great day,
Conrad

I broke the one on my injector manifold. Best to ask yourself if you really need to take it off. I never did find out why it would not come off the first time.

Hi Judderbar, I'm also hesitating. But I'm trying to figure out what is blocking the vapours from leaving the fuel tank because it's almost impossible to fill the tank! Any suggestions with this issue?

Are you having problems with the nozzle clicking almost immediately you start to fill?
This is a very common problem with these cars especially if the pump is fast.
Try twisting the nozzle grip to a south-west position relative to the filler neck and pull it out a little from the fully in position.
It has nothing to do with the fuel hose fittings under the bonnet.

Like Brendan says. On my car I fill by having the pumps filling trigger turned towards the front of the car so the handle is slightly upside down and the cars petrol flap is forced forwards and that works with most pumps.

Dear Brendan W and judderbar,
thanks for that information. I had tried moving the nozzle around (just a little) but understanding that this is a 'normal' issue I'll try and find the sweet spot on my car. Saves me from trying to replace parts that I don't have to!
Will need to fill up today... :D

Enjoy your weekend,
Conrad

How went filling ??

Might be the vapour recuperation system that's at fault, there should be a floater valve near the filling neck that allow fuel vapour flowing from/to tank/canister.
Not sure it was already used on MK2s tho...

Hello Everyone,
no luck with angling the fuel nozzle different ways. I do think it is a problem with the vapour recuperation system. Didn't know there was a floater valve ... Thanks Bernievarian, I'll have to see whether it's easy to check this first.

Hopefully my Haynes manual will mention it...

Have a great day,
Conrad

A photo of me filling up today. I was exaggerating the angle in my earlier post.

Thanks @judderbar for the great pic! I find that is also the easiest position for filling but unfortunately I'm sure I have other issues. Yesterday I was able to get to 3/4 full but then it started overflowing. Still a slow process when you can't push the nozzle to maximum flow. Everyone else around me finishes way before...

Have a great day,

I just filled my punto and i had the nozzle angled the other way from the one in the foto , looking the back of the car, and not all the way in.

I fill mine South West, slightly out and not a full grip. Have spent the last 5 years trying to get it to fill smoothly, does not always work. Thought about changing the carbon canister but I'll live for now.

Common Issue filling these, I always find when i put the nozzle right in that it clicks off like crazy and wont fill, however it works perfectly if i then pull the nozzle out about 4 inches (10cm for those who don't work in inches) and try (Basically with the end of the pump nozzle just past the anti syphon cap in the car). 3rd Punto I've had and all 3 been the same
