Hi all. I want to overhaul my 1200 palio. Any tips? Does the big end bolts and cylinder head bolts need to be replaced?

You can call a dealer, speak to workshop technician / mechanic. When head gasket blows, there is a good chance the bolts got warped with the cylinder head. Cylinder head may have fine hairline crack on side, so just skimming it won't always work, they need to check for cracks too.

If you unlucky, the engine block or cylinder head might have hairline crack, then after skimming cylinder head, car will drive ok until you hit heavy traffic, then you will notice temp gauge go from 1/2 to 3/4 or even further, blow another cylinder head gasket.
Sometimes mechanic did crap job with gasket or fitting cylinder head, sometimes company that skimmed cylinder head did crap job.
Best is to take the job to people who specialize in engine overhauls, not your average mechanic.

Hello,

Head bolts are stretch bolts and can only be reused once, so if it is the first time the engine is opened then you can reuse them. However, most gasket sets I've seen include new head bolts, so I would replace them.

I am currently considering when to overhaul my Palio 1.2. I did a half-assed overhaul last year, only replaced rings, but the cylinders are worn. I need oversized pistons or sleeves, I'll see what's available in South Africa.
