HI, I'm new on here so go easy !!

Car has just developed this fault !!

Battery good, when you turn the ign key, you can hear the fuel pump, which I suppose is normal however, turn the key it starts immediatly, runs for a few seconds then stops !!
In essence, won't idle, everything else great I guess.

Please help.
Cheers
Clive

Mine does that when it is cold, I start it, it dies, if I start it and keep my foot on the throttle keeping it over about 1200rpm for a few seconds then release the throttle it is fine! No idea what is wrong, had it over 18 months and it's one of its loveable quirks!
When it is warm, starts and runs fine

2006 is the change over year from mk2b to grande
Both are on 2006 plates = lots of confusion.....

Id advise removing the airbox and cleaning the butterfly valve (bit that moves when stampin on the throttle)

And the idle control valve as well
A wrag and wd40 and it cleans up quiet easily....

They build up gunk and cause a restriction in airflow till the idle valve opens enough to control idle

Brake cleaner is a good idea but let the vapour evaporate before starting.....

I've just gone out and done this on mine. I took the throttle body off completely, very easy job, cleaned it up with oodles of brake cleaner until it was nice and shiny clean. put it all back together, leaned through the window, fired her up and she idled straight away, no need to touch the pedal at all. A nice easy 30 minute fix (y)
