Good evening all,
After spending 2 hours trawling through the millions of threads on here I cant seem to find an answer so i'll ask outright.
I'm currently helping a friend rebuild a 2008 Fiat 500 poplar for his daughter to have on her 17th birthday in August. We are HGV mechanics by trade so neither of us have had much to with airbags and collision systems. We have changed the front slam panel, bonnet, bonnet bumper etc however we are now at the airbags. We've sourced new airbags and airbag module and have the old ones stripped out. On the initial scan of the system it had what we expected as fault codes for the deployed bags and stored crash data. My friend being the savvy shopper that he is, managed to get a 2nd hand airbag module. After plugging that in however it turns out that it had its own stored codes, one of which was lh front sensor fault. After refitting the original airbag module the sensor fault seems to have transferred across. Has anyone come across this before? Finally is there anything else to be wary of that would deploy the new airbags after we,ve fitted them?
I have sussed the basics:disconnect the battery, wait 30 minutes before connecting the new airbags, be wary of static build up etc.
Any advice on these issues would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

typecastboy probably can help. This one of his vids. Think he uses MES diagnostic programme to finish these off. [ame]https://youtu.be/2Bvgkn_AGyM[/ame]

Hi, I've done quite a few of these now (my video above).

The seat and curtain airbag codes will delete using MES, passenger/knee and driver will not. If the airbag ECU has crash data stored this will also not reset using MES.

I have sent a couple off in the past and had them cleared but had problems when I got one back with bent/broken pins and data still there so now I always buy secondhand good ones.

You can pick them up for around £45-£60 on eBay.

As long as you disconnect the battery earth when you're changing them you won't have a problem. Some would say earth yourself, I've never bothered.

Have the seatbelts also locked out and pre-tensioners deployed? These will also put lights up on the dash. Once you have replaced all the airbags/seatbelts/pretensioners that need doing, then put your fresh ECU in and all will be fine.

LH Front sensor fault sounds like either a seatbelt or pre tensioner.

If you need any help, give me a shout.
