Hi
Would really appreciate some help.
My daughters 1.2 lounge keeps cutting out for no reason
It started about 2 months ago when , the car for no reason broke down .
My usual mechanic recovered the car and said the fault code is cam sensor .
So he changed that and it all good
A few days later same problem same code
Changed the sensor in case it was a faulty one
But he also noticed on re start car was running bad
He said throttle body was sticking and so cleaned it out
2 months later car has now started to do same again
Engine light came on car wouldn’t revstart for 15 mins then it restart ok and light goes off.
Do you guys think it’s still throttle body sticking or something else.
My worry is the fact my daughter will be stranded and being only -7 she’s loosing total confidence in the car .
Thank you in advance

Hello and welcome.

Sorry to hear about the problem with your daughter's car.

If you've tried something, and it hasn't worked, then trying it again is unlikely to get it working. If you keep doing the same thing, you'll keep getting the same result.

Diagnosing this from a keyboard using the information you've supplied is impossible. There are a lot of faults which could give these symptoms, and just throwing parts at it in the hope of solving the problem is likely to be both costly and unproductive.

I'd suggest having this looked at by someone with specialist Fiat diagnostic tools, which means either a franchised dealer, Fiat specialist or one of us DIY types with a copy of multiecuscan.

Hi
Thank you for your quick response
I would agree that the info given is sparse.
He’s a good mechanic but admittedly not a fiat specialist.
He has some snap on tool diagnostics thingy that looks like an iPad to diagnose it.
I personally think the cam sensor is just being triggered by something else and isn’t actually the fault . But I’m just guessing tbh
Maybe connected or not but we also think the car is smoking more than before ( white smoke )
And you are quite correct the next step would be fiat specialist

And that’s a wonderful thought but I honestly would never expect someone to do that.

Yep get some expert Fiat advice, yes it costs but could save in the long run.
When you say cuts out, does it just stop like the key is turned or does it splutter/shudder to a stop?
Its cold at the mo so some more exhaust vapour is possible but just in case take a look at the underside of the oil cap?

It looks like I’ll do that
Might just be something silly causing it
And to answer your question
Oil is fine and clear
Will admit it smells a bit fuelly but my guy said it was normal
Also yes it just cuts off without a splutter won’t re start for a bit
Engine management light comes on but will go out after a bit too

If you get stuck i'm up the M40 in Redditch and could do a day out one weekend.

Pretty sure we have people in your area though.

Hi.
Im around an hour away too ..Didcot.

There are a few random electrical things people have experienced over time....
With some relatively simple fixes..

What age - milage in this 500?
Charlie 1.1 panda. Didcot

Hi Charlie
It’s an 08 plate with 66,000 on the clock

Plenty old enough then...

Ok.
Main earth canle..runs from battery negative to gearbox casing and chassis leg.
This can break down internally.. causing weird warning lights..running etc.

As can damage to the rear hatch wiring.

The main earth cable can be replaced..or doubled.up quite easily.

The rear hatch wiring is a slightly more fiddly job..but repair kits are available.

Thanks for all your replies, here is the latestest up date
I took the car to the local fiat garage.
The came back to me yesterday saying they have found 3 faults.
All of which are on the “F/18” fuse.
One of which is the cam sensor but they feel this isn’t the cause being as it’s had 2 now.
They have kept car for what they called extensive testing , in other words they guy said he’s taking it home.
He is questioning the ECU but needs to rile our other things first .
Any other input here would be great
Thanks guys

So we got the car back
And got to firstly say how helpful the local fiat garage are
Despite the haven’t quite found the fault they are trying hard
So here’s the report and if anyone could help it would be much appreciated
Thanks
