Hi I'm new to this page. I own a 2005 (not grande) punto 1.4 16v which I saved from the crusher last year. It's been running fine until a week ago when I noticed it's knocking slightly when accelerating uphill. There are no leaks or smoke or overheating and the engine ticks over evenly and hasn't lost any power. I'm thinking 'big end' failure is imminent despite only having 94k on the clock. Sorry to be asking so early on but I'd like to hang onto this one for a while of

timing belt, oil last changed?

Its only knocking when going uphill / under heavy load....

So that could be anything from knackered box / driveshafts to knackered engine mounts to engine issues

If it was big ends which tbh is fairly uncommon these days it would be present nearly all the time

Check things like belt conditions
Ensure the oil feed is good and healthy
Is the oil clean and corrext grade and spec?

Iirc the 1.4 16v is hydraulic lifters
A knackered lifter / blocked can also knock badly but hardly affect performance
