Hi guys hope everyone is well. I have a question I hope someone can help me with. My wife has complained about a banging at the rear of her fiat 500 and when I investigated I found that the rear o/s bump stop has broken and half of it is loose in the spring (photo attached). I have read on the net that they can be replaced with fiat coupe ones for a better ride as they are shorter. The bit of info I can't find is whether the bump stop should be inserted into the plastic abs that remains or whether that bit should be removed and the rubber bump stop inserted into the hole that is left. I will replace both side and hope someone out there can answer my question? I'm sure someone has done the mid and would appreciate some advice thanks in advance best regards Paul.

Re: Fiat coupe rear bump stop on Fiat 500

Hi there,

Yes I'm on standard (probably original) springs on my wifes 60 plate 1.2 sport. I wanted to know whether the replacement bump stop is the bit that has broken off or whether I need to also remove the white plastic bit that is still attached on the photo. I had read in a previous post that the fiat coupe bump stop which is just a rubber part improves ride and handling. Many thanks Paul :)

Given you should never hit the bump Stop I can't see how a different cars one would make any difference. Can I suggest new springs/shocks/bump stops etc.
The Haynes manual gives only basic removal of the suspension info so can't say if the plastic bits mounting, but have a look at the new ones that should given a clearer picture.

This happened to me-the bump stop just squashes back into the white bit-put a bit of grease to help it in
You need to drop the spring out via lower shock bolt removal though.

Don't think you'll need that much force-but you need to drop the spring out the way as it wont fit through it-i just greased the end, then twisted and pushed it up at the same time
