I'm thinking about a classic 124 spider and was interested if there was an analysis of strengths/weaknesses by model year (or groups of model years) on the forum. Something like '2000 engine + FI is great/awful compared to earlier models...' or the 197x model year is the only edition with the wonderful xyz feature'. Thanks!

Sadly, while the forum is a great resource for FIATs from about 1980 onwards, it's lacking somewhat in knowledge about the classics - particularly those models (like the spider) which weren't well received in the UK (Have you seen our weather? Who'd be mad enough to buy a spider?!).
That said, there are a fair number of US members who own and maintain these vehicles, so you may be able to glean some information from them, but AFAIK it's not something which already exists.
