Hi again all!
Please forgive me for being a thick bugger, and being unable to read any of the replies that folk mayve given me previously, but Im REALLY STRUGGLING to get the hang of this Forum thing??!
Anyway, as Ive already stated, there is NOTHING WHATSOVEVER wrong with my gearstick cables/linkages, as Ive already 'popped' them off the ball-sockets, at BOTH ENDS, on BOTH CABLES, and there is no issue whtasoever, they push/pull just fine!!
I have narrowed the issue down to the following: Standing infront of Punto bonnet, looking down into engine: The cable/linkage that attches to the 'upper' section of the gearbox, where it attached to a 2/3'' 'arm' type thing, that is meant to move from side to side.
The 'lower' cable/linkage attaches to a totally different attachment, that not only moves from left to right, but when it is in the 'middle' position, it also moves 'inwards'..ie: towards the engine, and it is ONLY THEN, when the upper cable/linkage, will move from side to side, otherwise it wont move at all...
So please people!...stop mentioning cables, etc. IT IS DEFINITELY NOT ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CABLES, it is wholly to do with where the cable is attached to the gearbox/engine, and 'why' that arm-thing just will not move?!
Also, the cluth seems to be working JUST FINE too!!??
Any ideas now peo:cry:ple??!!

it could be something as stupid as clutch cable adjustment - if cluch cable's are either by automatic ratchet adjustment at the pedal end or manual adjustment at the gearbox end - try to search online for how to adjust the cables or go down your local library and get the book out on your car - and read the bit on clutch and gearbox - also the probs with section

Hydraulic clutches on UK cars..

So not a simple adjustment .

if its a punto mark 2 1.2/1.4 upto 2003 - problems with the gearbox - / gear selection can be fixed by adjusting the cables that are attached to the gear box asnd gear lever 2 cable's - go from gearbox link points to under floor were they attach to the gear lever - the cable at the gearbox end top cable is adjustable - you disconnect at gear box and turn the little black box with a spring on it clockwise towards the bulk head - this tightens up the cable and makes the side to side movement of the gear lever stiffer.

if you want to adjust the hydraulic clutch this is done by turning the pointy nut at the end of the cable where it touches the clutch release arm this tightens or slackens the clutch adjustment depending on the direction you turn this adjuster
