Is there anybody on here that has this problem or had maybe a recall because of it as the garage want £500 to replace the broken wires which I think is rather excessive
Thank you in advance

Definitely excessive, any competent diyer should be able to cut and rejoin the cables with an extra length of the appropriate sized wire, I ran extra wires through my grommet for my rear cameras so it is not a massive issue to pull new ones through. Each end is accessible under the tailgate cover and from the panel over the left hand rear seatbelt, neither of which is too awkward to remove and replace.

The 500C boot-lid arrangement is indeed different to the hatch. Our 2012 car has a vinyl tube ending in grommets (about 8" long) which is just long enough and rubs on the edge of the boot-lid when open - I fully expect it to fail one day. The 2013 car has a similar cable but twice as long with a plastic clip holding it to the left boot arm to keep it tidy.

Access to the body side of the cable on the 500C is also more complicated so I'd expect higher labour charges, but not £500 worth...

Thank you for all replies
As a short term fix I have extended the two broken wires and the electrical tape and all seems to be good

Hold on, 500C? Not sure this will be the standard issue at the top of the boot we see on the tin-top 500.

It's not a long flex zanes maybe only 7/8 inches long but the wire sheath has gone brittle and has exposed the wires and they have broken but was staggered when garage quoted £500

It's a few minutes (of very easy) work to solder in some extra cable to fix the fault and heatshrink it on the hatchback, can't see it being much worse on the C.

I'd quite happily do it for people for a couple of beers.

Extending the cable is the DIY way ( would probably do it myself if it happens ) , but FYI there is an official FIAT fix for this too short a cable issue, via new harness and new "CLIP" ..:)

Part numbers below as well :

Interesting. Can't tell much from that TSB about the nature of the repair itself- but using a repair kit, clip and "neutral and blue thermal solder sleeves" (heatshrink?) it sounds like FIAT are indeed soldering in an extra length of wiring and then the clip holds it in place?
