Hello fellow FIAT Forum members! Firstly, I would like to thank all the team behind the FIAT Forum who have made this fantastic platform to connect FIAT fans and owners. I stumbled upon this forum while looking for help online. The car which I drive is FIAT Uno 1998 Petrol 999cc (FIRE).
One of the reasons for me joining this community is that I am interested in car restoration. I have some plans for restoring my car. So any help would be really appreciated. :)

hi there
Are you up to restore body or mechanics ?

Hello johorridoh! I want to perform a full restoration, even if that includes breaking down the car, part by part. This would ensure that each part of the car is in proper condition.

welcome to the forum :)

India is massive what town are you from?

Hello dave! I am from Pune, a city in the state of Maharashtra. :) Have you been to Pune?

Welcome to the group!

If theres any specific problems, search for them on this forum, if theres nothing relating to it, then ask!

The main mechanical problems reoccurring problems with Uno`s (& many cars over 10 years old) are:

The vacuum advance on the distributor leaking (check by sucking on the pipe, if theres no resistance you need a new one).

The distributor module breaking down with age (cant really be repaired, so change if necessary).

Bad earths &/or connections (clean & grease connections with contact grease).

Head gasket (make sure there is proper coolant, plain water causes corrosion of the head gasket, or simply age).

Gearbox failure (usually down to leaks, make sure theres oil in it!).

Fuel line leaks (rubber components perish with age, so replace).

Bad running/high fuel consumption (usually carb needing reconditioning).

Bad running/poor starting can also be tired distributor cap, rotor arm, spark plugs & HT leads.

In India I`d also say oil, air & fuel filters need changing every few thousand miles, due to dust & poor quality fuel.

Thats it really, nothing out of the ordinary!

Hey, i tried emailing them at sales[AT]99rpm[DOT]com but they haven't responded beyond the usual turnaround time and even after follow-up. Do they have any other mode of contact- phone/WhatsApp? I have an urgent order to make for items not listed on site.
