Hi there,

I just joined this nice Fiat forum tonight. My name is Ton, I live in the Netherlands in the nice province Brabant, near Eindhoven. My wife and I have been driving Fiat now for 28 years and I still find it very nice cars.

We started 1987 with a new Fiat Ritmo 60 CL, 1989 whe bought a new Fiat Uno 45 i.e. because of a total loss of the Ritmo due to myself . 1997 whe bought a second hand Fiat Tipo 1.4 i.e., at that moment 3 years and 35.000 km old. 2004 whe bought another Fiat Tipo 1.4 SX i.e., at that moment 9.5 years and 29.973 km old. This was a very nice car in distinguished dark green with a very comfortable grey interior. Our actual Fiat is a second hand 2001 Fiat Punto ELX 16V in the color Azurro Astrale with a CVT Speadgearbox :D we bought 2013 with 58.350 km.

I found this forum searching the internet for a solution for a irritating problem with the Speedgear gearbox of the Punto. When hitting the brakes or indicating lane change to the right, the reverse beep constantly beeped and the warning light for the gearbox on the dash was flashing then. When the problem occurred also the D indicator on the dash swapped to R and back to D again in the same frequency as the turning lights .

In "" from user homeward I read similar symptoms and the solution for it (y).

One of the contact pins of the right rear light unit was corroded, thoroughly cleaning and contactspraying it, the problem has been solved :).

So far my introduction to this forum.

Hi, and welcome to FF, :)

January 6 was a black day for the Punto in azurro astrale [emoji22]. Almost home, the head gasket blew away on the motorway. Financially seen, repair was logical because the car was still in good shape and nice to drive. Especially the CVT made it very easy to drive.

But the car being 17 years old and regarding the repair costs we decide to leave it with our garage for 150 euro [emoji24].

After 30 years of FIAT driving we have been looking for a new Japanese car and have bought a Mitsubishi Space Star (outside of Europe it is called Mirage) in wine red metallic with some nice options like a infotainment system with 6.5 inch touchscreen, dab radio, Apple Carplay and Android Auto. And obligate for me the nice Mitsubishi CVT [emoji14].

Although I still feel sad about the abrupt end of the Punto, the first month with the fine Space Star has been very pretty and I am amazed, which progress in motoring development has been made in 17 years!

So now and then I will be looking in the forum, because a big FIAT [emoji173] never dies!

A nice day to you all, Ton [emoji2]

Hey Ton, could you tell us how many kilometers the car had before the head gasket blew?

You mentioned you bought the car second-hand with 58350 KM on the meter, right?

Well, I'm sorry to say that unless the car has got a reliable service history you can access via FIAT dealer, then it's very probable that the car you bought actually had run thrice or more the amount of KM on the meter when you bought it.

Here in Greece, practically every single car sold by a second-hand car dealership has had the odometer resetted to a number that will appear to be a great bargain to someone who's looking to buy a second-hand car.

Example: 250,000 KM resetted to around 60,000 or even less for newer cars.
