Please can anyone give advise, 9 months ago I bought my daughter her 1st car it was an 09 plate and cost £5000, unfortunately last week the engine blew up. The garage we bought it from won't have anything to do with it or help saying the person who fitted new disc brakes and exhaust caused it to happen and it's their fault. My daughter is in tears and I just don't know what to do. I am not blaming him for selling me the car in the first place but would of been nice if he would have offered something towards it. Am I being out of order x

Hi, it started to make a clicking noise then a loud bang, there was smoke coming out from the engine, my daughter even though she turned the engine off, it was revving by itself. Piston number 3 has melted and caused the damage hope is helps x I have attached a file

did she have it serviced in the time..?, what distance did it cover in this time..??

modern diesels need specialist servicing to keep oil and internals clean to help prevent this.., ( basic terms)

Yes she did, she has done 8000 Miles since we purchased it, and has had oil change and filters. Also air pollution filter as this light came on quite a lot x

the light coming on is the key there I'm afraid,

there is a "metal filter" in the exhaust, and to clean it ,the cars computer basically pumps extra diesel into the engine to burn this filter ( Diesel Particulate Filter) clean..,

IF it doesn't clean it correctly, then it'll keep adding extra diesel - until the engine's own oil is essentially a fuel( as it's mixed with extra diesel) and runs on uncontrollably..

who did the servicing / diagnostics of the DPF regen light..??

this is really where the problem lies.. :bang:

Sounds too me that the garage is not at fault. I don't Want to sound horrible so please don't take offense but If the car has done 8000 miles without fault since the new exhaust was fitted then it is a common mistake with new owners to not know about the dpf filter and how to keep it running properly.

What should off happened is if the cars dpf filter has filled up with soot the dpf light should off lite up requiring the driver to drive above 50kph but I alway recommend 60mph on motorway for a min off 20 minutes too allow the car too burn it off. If the car does not complete the cycle then the car with try again but if the driver does not allow the car to complete its cycle it will try over and over till its blocked and this is too my knowlage what has happened too you its basically over fueled and the dpf filter has basically blocked up. It sounds like the car has given your daughter wornings but your daughter simply drove on like I've said its a common mistake my garage has had loads but its not the cars fault.

I could be wrong but my friends done the same so I am just going by his experience.
