Hi everyone,
Just saying hello before posting my first thread with reference to my 2005 Prestigio auto. I have owned it for 4 years now and has been reliable enough if you don't count the sunroof and reversing aid, both of which have never worked since purchase. It has now decided that I have to shell out some cash and has chosen the driveshafts as a means of emptying my bank account.
I lived in Southern Italy for a long time and came to love the rust free examples that were available. I drove an Uno, a classic Croma and a Fiat Dino during my time there along with a Lancia 1.3 Coupe and a 2 ltr Lancia HPE. My pride and joy though was the 1967 Fiat Dino bought in Palerma, Sicily.
I am looking forwards to the Forum responses on how to overcome my driveshaft problems and thank you all in advance.
Cheers.

Have a look at the other driveshaft threads in the "forum tools" we have done this to death:p. Vectra replacement shaft are the permanent solution, if a bit of money . The cheap alternative is to try filling the middle rubber boot on th long drive shaft with CV grease and renewing the Jubilee clips(y)

Hi Tarquin
Thanks for the fast response. I have posted a more detailed description of my plight as a technical thread on the Croma site and hope that you can find the time to read it.
I saw your responses to the Feb 14 thread on the manual Croma but have seen nothing that indicates that the auto is a similar fix.
In your opinion should I have a go at grease packing before trying anything else.?
Thanks a lot

My mantra with anything car related is try/check the little things first. A sachet of CVgrease into the tulip is the first thing I would try. You will probably find there is a deal of rust in the joint where the grease has been slung out and H2O has got in(y)

Will do as you say and touch wood it will be the solution. Hopefully it will mean that I don't have to sell the missus into slavery to raise the dosh for a driveshaft.
Many thanks

Tell me you still have the Dino......

I had a Lancia HPE and loved it. Bought it for peanuts after the huge rust problems had been fixed. the only breakdown was due to a German part :)

Hi Bazm
I kept the Dino garaged for over 20 years then let it go for next to nothing when I realised that I would never get round to restoring it.
The HPE I also brought back to the UK and let a pal have it for spares for his crappy rusty 1600 model. My 2litre model was totally rust free having spent all its life in southern Italy.
Cheers

Ref my driveshaft change out with the correct Vectra one I am pleased to announce that the job is a straight swap, even the mounting bracket was the same. So there are no hang ups with doing the job.
The old Croma drive shaft had most of the needle bearings lying in the tulip so no chance of a quick easy fix.
Thanks all who contributed to this post.
