Unusual if it's coming from one vent only. Ordinarily I'd expect such smells to emanate from the A/C evaporator. Is it draining properly? In warm, moist conditions it can be a breeding ground for mould and bacteria.

Check there isent a mackerel caught in the fan. Failing that I'd reckon it's a fairly typical bacterial smell - system probably needs a flush out with an anti bacterial solution, also check that drains are not blocked. Bacteria normally manifests as an 'eggy' smell.:)

its definitely especially strong smell from that vent and on both sides ... I got to the air filter and it's like new
