Hi Guys

Well, a few weeks ago I picked up a lovely little Punto 1.2 16v on a 02 plate.
74,000 on the clock and am now trying to iron out those silly little problems.
To start, when I bought the car it was only firing on 3 cylinders, a quick check of the HT leads indicated a totally duff lead. One new set of HT leads and it seems to be running fairly well, averaging around 42 mpg.
The next prob seems to be the thermostat but would welcome your input!
Whilst driving the temperature gauge is up and down all the time. With the heating turned up and the blower fan on it cools right down.
1. Am I right in thinking the thermostat is stuck open?
2. Would this cause the engine management light to stay on (diagnostics gave an unspecified fault code 113560?
3. Would this cause the engine to be sluggish when pulling off?
4. How easy is the thermostat change/bleeding the system etc.

Look forward to your input. Thanx

Stuck open 'stat you would see temp gauge cool all the time. Fluctuating would suggest sensor, or possibly low coolant. Changing 'stat is straight forward - did mine last weekend. It was stuck open, never got more than 1/4 up the gauge. Now within a mile its sitting at 90.

are you saying your car warms up to temp and gauge on middle in 1 mile from cold?

there are alot of punto stat's that go duff quick

the classis fault is - the engine gets warmed up, no problem, stick some heaters on and then come to some lights - the guage shows a decrease

Start driving again and it starts to work its way back up

You find it takes alot longer then normal to warm up

I could get to work 5miles away and it'd only just get to middle
With new stat fitted it took 2 miles

Dont go white box special

Get a genuine one - i've no issues with my genuine one since fitting it

Its also worth noting, that air in the cooling system is a bitch
getting it out - is a bitch
But a good bleed should help cure it

Thanks guys appreciated, any idea if that fault code could be connected with this?
