Hi,

This is my 1st post and to be honest its actually on behalf of my daughter.

My daughter has a 2011 Fiat 500 lounge and she has noticed a substantial amount of water build up predominantly in the rear passenger foot well, she has taken the car into the dealers she bought it from and they have advised that water is getting into the car from behind the rear bumper through holes that are in the rear chassis that are apparently there from Manufacturer and allow air flow.

The Garage has quoted around £750.00 for the issue to be fixed and for the holes to be plugged and for new carpet to be fitted.

Has anyone come across this issue, the warranty expired in May hence the reason for the garage charging but my argument is that if the holes are there from design then this is a design issue and should be covered by Fiat.

On a different make of car I had this issue, and was told a similar tale by the supplying dealer.bi found the suspect holes and the area around them was dry. They also had one-way flap valves fitted (if you're into boats, you'll know how self-draining scuppers work - similar thing here).

I dried out the carpet, and eventually traced the leak to a poor door seal that was pulling in moisture from spray as the car was bring driven.

This might be of no use to you at all, but it's my penn'orth - I would hate to part with £750 for little return!

Sweetsixteen.

HI Thanks for your response and suggestion.

I initially thought is was the seal on the glass roof that was letting water leak through and down the inside of the passenger pillar and then out under the carpet.

I was surprised with how quickly the garage (after having the car for a couple of hours) diagnosed that it was the rear bumper and air channels that were letting the water in, I asked them how they had diagnosed so quickly and how they had come to discover that the holes are there from manufacturer and they advised they had spoken to Fiat UK, this leads me to think that this is possibly a known issue.

If i were you i would call fiat and have a chat with them about this.

Hi,

I have called and raised a complaint with Fiat, I am waiting for them to come back to me with how/if they propose to assist with the resolution
